That was weird - but entertaining and Glennie is a definate keeper... even if I wanted to box her in the ear now and then for some of her melodies (most of what you will come to feel in this film is actually quite impressive - but it has its moments).

Interesting exploration of sound in a documentary about Evelyn Glennie, world class percussionist. Doubly interesting because she's also deaf.

This doc was visually dynamic for a movie about sound. It made me wish I had a great audio set-up for my TV. (Damn I wish I had money) The movie is about a drummer and her appreciation of rhythm and how music is everywhere and just the vibrations can inspire. Then, there are othe...( read more)r surprises as the documentary keeps on.

The movie has great sound captures from everyday life and while the grand central scene is great in it?s dichotomy of being both focused on the subject but capturing how everyone else who can hear it responds is great. And seeing her walk through Japan, especially the sensory overload of Shibuya and Shinjuku was fun. My only real complaint is that is does dwell quite a bit on parts of the story that really aren?t very exciting except for the technical elements.

Neat little picture, but it meanders a bit too much. Evelyn Glennie's story is simply amazing, but she's so eccentric it's tough to feel close to her. If you're a percussionist you should watch this movie but otherwise it's kind of a snoozer.

No. Not my kind of movie.

Quite interesting. Really neat to see all the different instruments, although at times the improv was a bit too avant garde for my taste.

Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer

Touch the Sound is remarkable not only because of Glennie's story -- a clinically deaf Grammy-winning musician who has played with the world's great orchestras -- but for the way Riedelsheimer uses so... full review

Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail

[T]his is a film that leaves strong reverberations and a pleasant, sense-scrambled high. full review

We listen to this film more intensely than is usually the case. full review

Edward Havens, FilmJerk.com

A nice introduction to an artist mostly unknown to the general public... but one that needs to focus more on its strengths and less on outside influences. full review

Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

This concentration on the physical quality of sounds is a mesmerizing corroboration of Glennie's belief that tones, timbre, and tempo are in "everything we see." full review
