If you told me going in, that this movie would sucker-punch me and make me weep, I would have laughed in your face.
Damn if it didn't do it though. It was better than the first in every way, and the first is a classic.

People say that the second film can never be as good as the first, they can be right sometimes but not this time, Toy Story Two is just as good as the first one. Great storyline with new characters and new funny lines, anything you hear from Toy Story, you'll still find funny in many years to come.

How long will it last, Woody? Do you really think Andy is going to take you to college, or on his honeymoon? Andy's growing up, and there's nothing you can do about it. It's your choice, Woody. You can go back, or you can stay with us and last forever. You'll be adored by children for generations.

    My review:

Toy Story 2 is another animated legend just like the first one is. I enjoyed this one more because I thought the plot was more exciting and one that is quite intense. The plot also proves more than one point about natural life between people and toys. That point being that as young children grow up they begin to forget their toys and then sell them which happens quite often in this world. It happened to Jessie in this film as she was telling Woody about it. I think that the characters are a lot better and a lot stronger in this one than the first one because I think Jessie and Bullseye rock and I think Emperor Zurg is cool aswell but he is a bit of a weird character aswell because he is a total rip off of Darth Vader. This also involves the return of my favourite actor Tom Hanks and my favourite film studio PIXAR Animation Studios. I think that Al is a better villain than Sid is. And also I think it is really cool that they have a toy villain in this one who is Stinky Pete The Prospector.

With very rare exceptions - sequels are not nearly as good as the original. However, leave it to the folks at Pixar to manufacture the quintessential exception to this rule -- Toy Story 2!
As in the original, the superrealist images beguile us with their bold wit, and the storytelling is so tight, urgent and inventive there doesn't seem to be a wasted moment, filled with themes of loyalty, loss, greed and redemption.
Provides the kind of exhilarating cinema experience that leaves you gasping in admiration and actually hopeing desperatly for a third instalment.

Sequils have a hard job when they follow onto such revelutionary movies, and this one failed... badly. Kids will like it if they liked the first 1, but no1 else will.

An absolutely perfect sequel. They may have actually improved a masterpiece. In the first one they had to introduce the characters, whereas in this one they could get straight into the story and this time you could laugh at Buzz lightyears naivety. The new characters were also brilliant and just as funny as the old ones. Although it was one of the first animated films the animation is amazing. Brilliant film

The only sequel done by Pixar to date and defenately a perfect one a that. There is nothing much different in this one the the brilliant first one, but there was something defenately different to make it the more memerable movie. Perhaps it was Pixar growing with experience. In years to come generations will look back and recognise this movie as one of Disneys classics.

Toy Story 1 was so amazing and almost before it's time, then they made Toy Story 2 and ruined everything. Really bad, the manuscript seemed to be made in 5 minutes.

While this film comes nowhere near capturing the charm of the original, though it is still among the best of PIXARS movies. In this film Woody is stolen by a greedy toy collecter and it's up to Buzz Lightyear and friends to rescue him. What ensues is a whacky film which just doesn't quite capture the magic of the first film. And not to mention the other side of the film invoving Woody and the new toys he meets at Al his kidnapper's apartment. They explain to him that they need him to finally go out of storage and be put in a musuem. At first Woody is shocked, but soon he is seduced by The Prospector into believing that being in a musuem is the best honor there is as the Prospector tells him that Woody's owner Andy won't keep him forever and will eventually discard him. As you can imagine like it's predecessor the movie ties in thematic themes such as abandonment and neglict into the story. Do yourself a favor and check out this entertaining PIXAR film it is entertainment people of all ages. "There's a snake in my boot!" One of the funny little lines from the movie...

I prefer the first one, but considering most of the Disney sequels they put out there, this one wasn't too shabby at all, I actually really enjoyed this film

I actually think I liked this better than the original. Just cause Woody and Buzz were friends already and they just had more time for the adventures rather than the set up. Great sequel.

In "Toy Story 2," the fun and adventure continues when Andy goes off to summer camp and the toys are left to their own devices. Things shift into high gear when an obsessive toy collector kidnaps Woody who unbeknownst to himself is a highly valued collectable. It's now up to Buzz Lightyear and the gang from Andy's room - Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, Rex and Hamm - to spring into action and save their pal from winding up as a museum piece. There's plenty of excitement and fun as the toys get into one predicament after another in their daring race to get home before Andy does.

Having made such a remarkable impact on the world of animation, swapping sentiment and dodgily-etched 2-D stereotypes for something distinctly more multi-dimensional - while creating the same sort of real-life demand for its screen playthings that it portrayed in the movie - it was inevitable that a sequel to Toy Story would appear at some point.

Originally envisioned, however, as one of the straight-to-video efforts that have proven so successful for Disney (to wit: Aladdin follow-up The Return Of Jafar, and The Lion King sequel Simba's Pride), the folks at Pixar sensibly decided this film was worthy of a big screen outing first. And right they are, for Toy Story 2, while lacking the immediacy of its predecessor and taking just a little too long to switch into high gear, is a highly superior sequel. In the States it zoomed its way to $150 million in just four weeks, kicking off with a not-to-be-sniffed-at $80 million opening weekend - proof, then, that this sort of thing may well come with a built-in audience, but at the same time, a little quality and thought goes a very long way.

This time around it's the summer after the original movie and Andy is heading off to cowboy camp, Woody in tow. Until, that is, Woody is incapacitated in a playroom accident and left on a neglected top shelf, along with a broken penguin, for repair. A further string of mishaps, mainly involving Woody's attempts to save the dusty bird from a yard sale in a brilliant rescue sequence, see him landing in the clutches of toy collector Al (of Al's Toy Barn fame), and finding out facts about his past life, involving a crap 50s black-and-white telly show, a bunch of new characters - cowgirl doll Jessie, boxed gold prospector Stinky Pete and mute pony Bullseye - and one of the biggest merchandising opportunities since, well, Toy Story. Meanwhile, Buzz and his pals set off to the toy store in order to bring Woody back to Andy's room, encountering a string of obstacles - from Tour Guide Barbie to a whole shelf of other Buzz Lightyears - along the way.

While Toy Story's plotline depended largely on Buzz Lightyear's refusal to believe in his action figure origins, this time around Lasseter ups the stakes; the underlying story strand, treated in one of the movies handful of songs, gets the toys pondering their fate once they become broken or outmoded, or their owner simply outgrows them. Knowing that the characters have only a limited lifespan lends proceedings a rather curious poignancy, although it doesn't detract from some quite sensational animation which, as it was first time around, is the major selling point. Here the detail is evident in everything from the amazing opening sequence, pitting Buzz against his arch nemesis, Emperor Zurg, through to the monolithic shelves of Al's Toy Barn. However, its the little touches - such as the thick dust layer adorning Woody's new shelf-top home - which stick in the mind longest.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of Toy Story 2, however, is the amount of care that has gone into creating a film which is every bit as impressive as its predecessor, rather than delivering something vastly inferior that can be sold on the strength of its characters. Lasseter and new arrival Brannon have skilfully woven their way around the lack of surprise element to create new characters that charm and convince, set-pieces galore - leading up to a finale every bit as breathtaking as its predecessor - and a whole range of new and original jokes, not least of which is a canny repetition of Buzz's space ranger delusions to hilarious effect. Toy Story 2 doesnt quite knock The Godfather II from its best-sequel-of-all-time perch, but it still provides the kind of exhilarating cinema experience that leaves you gasping in admiration and actually wanting a third instalment. If only all sequels were this good.

Not as good as the first one in my opinion. But the voice acting was spot on. I can't wait to see the third one when it comes out.

Anptjer big hit for Pixar!!! This was very good. Kelsey Grammer plays a really good bad guy!! The song "When Somebody Loved Me" makes me cry. Childhood is over so fast & this movie picks up on that, very poignantly.
