For me, Transamerica is all about Felicity Huffman's performance. It's a bold and very brave performance brilliantly executed and rightfully celebrated.

One of those quirky adventure stories that makes me wonder if this stuff actually happens to real people. There were parts of it that seemed very real (like how Bree's parents treated her), but I want to know if all of these things ever happen to one person. Felicity Huffman was ...( read more)pretty amazing playing a man who's transitioning into a woman and struggling with the decision.

A wonderful road movie in many respects. Huffman plays a pre-op transsexual whom discovers she has a son. As the two make their way across the country it becomes apparent how fragile they both are. The film avoids overt sentimentality and instead goes for subtle moments of humour...( read more). The film doesn't end with every thing being resolved but places itself somewhere where we can see how things will eventually pan out. Huffman is incredible, never once seeming like anything less than a man on his way to becoming a woman. Zegers is also impressive despite the writer trying extra hard to make him as dysfunctional as his father.

"Life is more than the sum of its parts."

The first film by Duncan Tucker, Transamerica stars Felicity Huffman as a pre-operative transsexual named Bree (whose given name was Stanley). One week before going under the knife, Bree learns that she fathered a boy who is now 1...( read more)7 and is in trouble with the law. Bree would like to ignore this information, but is forced to meet the young man, Toby (played by Kevin Zegers), by her analyst Margaret (Elizabeth Peņa), who will not allow the surgery to happen unless Bree meets him and confronts this aspect of her past. Upon meeting, the son believes that Bree is simply a do-gooder. She buys a car and the two road-trip back to her home in Los Angeles, Bree all the while attempting to keep from Toby the truth of the situation.

A sensitive subject matter on which there are as many opinions and prejudices as that of "Brokeback Mountain". Huffman absolutely excels in the role of transsexual in the last throes of transformation - the role seems tailor made for her with every gesture and dignified word being dynamic in its delivery. Surely to be forever acclaimed as the performance that lost an Oscar to sentimentality. Kevin Zegers as the dysfunctional son with a huge but understandable chip on his shoulder gives a strong indication of becoming a big name in Hollywood. With Dolly Parton's voice taking one through the rolling of the credits I thought the usage of more country music through the trans-continental trip would have been apt and lent some great atmosphere to the journey of discovery.

This is a total one man show for Felicity Huffman, she really did surprise me with her amazing acting.. After watching her in Desperate Housewives, this movie really changes the way I think about her.. A great movie with very sensitive subject.

Transamerica was a complete surprise for me, I was expecting a more serious movie considering the subject, but as the movie unfold, I found out that it was much more then a woman being trapped in a man's body, it was the pain Bree had been living with all of her life and how she ...( read more)was determined to find the happiness that she deserves. The movie had a fantastic plot, great characters, Felicity Hoffman was amazing in her role. The chemistry between her and the young boy was really great. They had their funny and touching moments. This movie did a great job of letting the viewer get into a world of trans-gendered people. It was also about family, acceptance, honesty and love.
