I remember watching this as a kid. I couldn't wait to see it again. Watching it as an adult...different story. Silly.
Campy and silly, I'm sure I'd seen this before, but I remembered nothing about the film when I re-watched it a few nights ago.
Rental.
I thought Transylvania 6-5000 was a laugh riot. I also use to always watch this around Halloween time, and I forget what channel it was but there was this channel that use to always have something called "Shock-tober" every month of October. Does anyone else remember Shock-tober back in the 80's? Well anyway they use to always play Transylvania 6-5000 along with other films such as The Wraith, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, The Gate, and The Blob. Wow, what a wonderful time that was...I miss Shock-tober.
"Transylvania 6-5000 is about two tabloid reporters Jack Harrison and Gil Turner who are sent to Transylvania with two choices: find the Frankenstein monster or find new jobs. But before the jumpy journalists can dig up their big story, they must first face the horrors of an extremely clumsy butler a nymphomaniac vampire and a semi-mad doctor as well as assorted mummies, werewolves and more Transylvanian oddballs. Can these two bumbling heroes unravel this monstrous mystery or are they in for some very scary surprises?"
Just for the record this movie is not scary at all, it's an all out wacky-screwball comedy. This isn't a laugh out loud like crazy humorous movie, nor is it raunchy or anything, but it's definitely funny enough to give you the giggles every few minutes as well as a few out loud belly laughs. It's also a rated PG comedy/horror movie so don't expect any nudity or foul language, or anything like that. What makes the movie so damn funny is the complete silliness of it's characters. I swear to God, the characters in this movie are so fucking retarded it's hilarious.
Take Fejos for instance, a goofy idiot played by Michael Richards(who played Kramer on Seinfeld), who taunts hotel guests and asks them to do stuff like sniff ashtrays and slip on banana peels. Fejos is actually one of the strong points of this movie and plenty of the stand out funny moments here have revolved around him. Another strong point that helps make the movie so funny are the reactions and facial expressions of Jack(played by Jeff Goldblum) and Gil(played by Ed Begley Jr.). It's funny to see how they reacted while they were in a town fully surrounded by complete idiots. And then we get the mad scientist, a Sicilian doctor named Victorio Malavacqua, who somehow goes completely mad every time he just steps out of his laboratory for a split second. Plus we get all of our favorite horror movie monsters in one setting...the wolfman, vampire, mummy, Frankenstein monster. It's just all a very silly good time.
It's a wacky movie, with many wacky characters, and a lot of wacky fun! I recommend it.

I was just telling a friend about this movie, I think I'm like the only person who remembers it but was a great part of my childhood!
The difference between this movie and truly bad ones is that the actors are obviously having fun. All the characters except Goldblum's are, well... totally insane. Goldblum's character is the anchor of the movie, providing a center for all the madness to spin around. It also has a big heart, and a ridiculously (and ridiculous) happy ending.
The movie reminds me of Weird Al's UHF, another no-budget comedic masterpiece.
Holy Christ look at how young Goldblum is. Watched this at the theaters when I was a kid. It sucked then too.
Perhaps one of the dumbest films you've ever seen...BUT it has that 80s flair to it, so it comes off as possibliy intentional camp.
So Cheesy it works. Why don't we make comedies this cute anymore? I watched it all the time when I was little. I just love this film!
I must admit that I own this movie. It was funny in it's day. It is definitely a movie for late late night.
One of my sis most hated movies & yes, I watch it just to irritate her lol. Come on... Michael Richards is hilarious!! I guess a sense of humor ISNT hereditary lol. Luv EB, JG & JB always.
I think that I may have seen this. Of course, that was in the 80's and I don't remember much of that decade.
If Glenn Miller had a grave, he'd be spinning at warp factor 9 in it because of his song being mutilated for this moronic movie.
Too funny. Everyone should watch this movie. Goldblum and Begley are one of the best film duos of all time.
OMG. This is the stupidest movie I've seen in years. It gets one star because Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis were cast in it.
A favorite of mine when I was younger, Michael Richards really needs to do more movies like this an UHF, and only one more thing I need to say JEFF GOLDBLUM!
I thought this was quite funny, haven't seen it in ages. But wouldn't mind sitting down & watching this one again.
