Plot:
From stalwart Starfleet jurors to a minimum of miniature-golfing Klingons, this docu-comedy takes a hilariously breezy and off-kilter look at the "Star Trek" fandom menace. Hosted by Denise Crosby of...( read more

Intresting I`m not a star treck fan. But funny to see how some fans are.
I didn`t know that the Klingon language is based on ancient Hebrew.
i hate star trek but this film is more about embracing a sickness of unity and geekiness that is hard to believe. not too mention these people weren't acting!
Quite amusing in places. I meahn some of these people seriously have to get a life. Some speak with such monotonous voices it's as if they've had a personality bypass! I'm surprised any of them have any friends! Quite bizarre. I'm a Trekkie myself, but am glad I'm not a freak!
What a great movie putting obsession on display for all to see. I especially like the guy who wears his Star Trek uniform to the supermarket.
I have this odd fascination with extremes. The world is filled with these various subcultures that are absolutely shrouded in obscurity, so it's always a pleasure to watch a documentary like "Trekkies" that really introduces you to a whole new way of living.
Although I found this entertaining, the film's lack of purpose really left a lot to be desired. It was more of a random collage of video clips than an actual polished documentary... we don't get any insight whatsoever into the lives of these people or what drives them to visit hundreds of conventions. Director Roger Nygard simply shows us group of fanatics and lets us come to our own conclusions about the characters... which would be fine, but we don't get to know these people at all. Instead of a charming, intricately edited, and intimate story like 2007's "The King of Kong", all we really get with "Trekkies" is a handful of little Star Trek related anecdotes. It's interesting while you're watching it, but it's instantly forgettable.
I was unsure what Nygard's stance was in regards to these people... he doesn't really present it in a typical comical fashion, but some of the situations are so strange and extreme that it seems as if it was there for a gag. In fact, I was looking up at some reviews for this film, and the common thread seemed to be that people thought it was hilarious... and I didn't even know it was supposed to be funny! I think the reason that people leave this with nothing more than a few laughs is because we're distanced from the characters so much that there's no reason to root for them. Another documentary from 2007, "Confessions of a Superhero", takes these people you'd think would be complete losers and makes them absolute heroes. I was hoping this would do the same.
The real stars of the "Trekkies" movie are the cast members themselves. In fact, i'd love to see a film entirely devoted to these actors discussing fans they've encountered throughout their careers. The story "Scotty" told about how he essentially helped a person through terrible depression and saved their lives was extremely heartfelt and powerful, and more of that would've been fantastic.
There was a part in the film where someone mentioned the extraordinary power of a television series. For some people, television provides an escape, and for others it's a completely negative thing. "Trekkies" never tells us which side of the fence these Star Trek fans are on... is it great that they've found something they love, or is it handicapping them from relationships, family, and friends? Of course we don't really know because it's not covered to much extent at all. I was very disappointed in that regard.
The worst part of this movie is that we leave the film thinking trekkies are just absolute weirdos. It doesn't focus on these people as being "real people", rather caricatures of themselves. The film doesn't erase any negative stigmas that one might have regarding hardcore Star Trek fans... and in that way, I think it's a huge missed opportunity.
i thought this was really entertaining. it really shows what a phenomena Star Trek was and ill still be. Live Long and Prosper.
I really don't know what to expect from this, I guess it is showing us how much people love Star Trek. I might watch it sometime.
A great documentary that shows how crazy some people are when it comes to being STAR TREK fans. So sad...and yet so funny at times. Definitely worth checking out.
Makes me feel better about being a huge fanboy. At least I'm not as pathetic as some of the people in this film!
One of the more disturbing documentaries I have come across in the last while. Why? Star Trek fans that take everything to a whole new level! You almost don't know if to laugh or just shake your head. Is this all real? I certainly don't doubt that, Star Trek is a cultural phenomenon. Whether you like it or not, it's hard to not agree that the series set the mold for the television we watch today. This is almost like home movies from various conventions, and it's interesting to say the least. If you're not planning to attend a Trek con any time soon, you can experience it without the humiliation of being spotted there. You can't really take something like this too seriously, just expect to hear a lot of fans gushing about their favourite series of all time!
"Peter, this is the WORST possible time you could have called me! Okay, talk to you later." Laughing at nerds is funny.
A nonstop cavalcade of nerdery. Favorite bits are the cross-dressing Trekkie, the guy who tattooed himself with the Klingon symbol and the teenage mullet Trekkie. The movie seeks to understand a little bit and also to poke fun and marvel at the craziness of the Star Trek phenomenon. Definitely worth a watch.
This is a heart-breaking movie. People finding absolute comfort in their lives with a show. We need to invest are lives with others not shows, movies and other manufactored was of escapism.
Fantastic documentary about fans of Star Trek. Also wonderful interviews with cast members. Very funny at times. Recommended.
Hilarious and sad at the same time. It makes you lose faith in humanity, but laughing the whole way.
Honestly one of the funniest films i ever saw. This film makes all Star Trek fans look like fools. "Get a Life people!"
A MUST SEE for any Trek fans or anything interested in fan subcultures. Are you a trekkie or a trekker?
Do you ever feel embarrased for somebody else? Watch this and you difinately will! It's actually a really good documentary - funny, informative, interesting even if you aren't a fan. Some of the people are insane, some pretty normal. It's interesting how a TV show or shows can bring all these people from different walks of life together.
if u have ever felt like a freak, this movie will definetly make u feel better. a hilarious documentary and piece of behind-the-scenes trek trivia.
A tongue-in-cheek look at Star Trek fans that made me laugh and cringe at the same time. Recommended, but as a one watch.
I'm not really into Star Trek at all, but for some reason i found this documentary really interesting and funny. Some of the die-hard fans shown in this movie are borderline insane, but the film pokes fun of them in a warm-hearted way and is never mean spirited.
This board looks lonely. Be the first to talk about "Trekkies" !
