Inspired by true accounts, this HBO miniseries focuses on a group of fictional characters caught up in the harrowing aftermath of the tsunami that devastated the coast of Thailand two years ago.

    Well-written, well-directed and well-acted ...

I've always thought that HBO makes some great movies, usually with very original storylines that are sometimes based on real facts and strong characters, very expressive and good skilled.

Well Tsunami:The Aftermath is nothing far from it. It shows us pretty intensely, the effects of a tsunami and it's consequences in a 3rd world country but wheretourism is highly looked upon. It also debates many other aspects, like the probability of this tsunami to have been made artificially, for the interest of rebuidling in short for development and money, and we all know that this sort of technology exists. A short example: "But why are the palm trees still standing" a biting question of Nick Fraser (Tim Roth) a journalist asking Ellen (Kate Askfield) a representative of a major Hotel company, looking to rebuild after the aftermath. Another aspect of this is the drama and the suffering of different individuals and their pain and nastyness of paperwork and the allpresent birocracy. But there's always hope and help wothin the human soul (so i've heard), and we can see that thru the whole movie.

A very good movie, I much enjoyed with my family, maybe a bit too long for my taste but unique nonetheless. 9/10. I recommend it. Do what you will:))lol1

A tale of personal loss, survival and hope, TSUNAMI, THE AFTERMATH follows a group of fictional characters whose lives are irrevocably transformed by the cataclysmic natural disaster.

Among those whose stories are followed are: a young couple searching for their child; a Thai survivor who loses his family and tries to prevent developers from seizing the land his village is built on; an Englishwoman whose husband and son are missing; an ambitious reporter; a relief worker; an overwhelmed British official whose faith in the system is torn apart; and a leading Thai meteorologist, whose earlier report detailing the inevitability of a tsunami hitting the affected area was ignored.

TSUNAMI, THE AFTERMATH is based on extensive research and interviews by writer Abi Morgan and dramatically explores the interconnectedness of those who suffered loss in this unimaginable tragedy.

The miniseries examines the cultural and personal fault lines that can be ruptured when catastrophe strikes, and shows how people all over the world - and across a wide social and economic spectrum - came together in the aftermath of the tsunami to cope with their losses and try to help one another rebuild their lives.

TSUNAMI, THE AFTERMATH celebrates the best of the human spirit during the worst of times and explores the lessons for humanity raised by a disaster of such an extraordinary magnitude.

Filmed on location in Phuket and Khao Lak, Thailand, the production has had the supportive and collaborative cooperation of the local governments and communities. Local residents were interviewed for their input prior to production, and the Thai production company Santa Film has acted as advisor throughout filming.

A powerful & insightful movie that doesn't go all Hollywood cheese. They effectively develop characters you become attached to & connect with them all the while staying true to the stories whether or not they are based on real people it still is a powerful film.

A number of family tragedies encountered by Thailand natives and tourists as the '04 tsunami disaster set into the coastal shores of the Indian Ocean. Ejiofor, Roth, Collette and Bonneville give great performances to gain credibility to the touching family, journalist, and diplomatic drama within. The original flooding video shot by a real-life tourist ('04) is seamlessly spliced into the wave scene. Although its an HBO film, it's better than a Hollywood production.

This is incredibly sad but very interesting. It's based on the events that took place in the 2004 Asian Tsunami.

Meh. It was done well and made in the best intentions, and for some people the whole movie might have been a revelation or an interesting insight into the inner workings (0r lack therof) of international crises, I was left un-entertained.

    I really liked this movie
It was sad, terrible, but happy when they found there missing loved ones. Its just...amazing..that they could couldve had a warning..but instead ignored it. I don't i thought it was..good.

Pretty okey drama movie based from the Tsunami tragedy 2004. Its mostly about how it was just after and we get to follow some of the people in search of their family members etc and the help from other countries. Well made and nice acting .. a bit long tho but worth seeing.

Wow. Just, wow. I cried more than once. It is so disheartening to realize that governments and greedy corporations can be so stupid. But at the same time, this film also shows a better side of human nature in the volunteers, and also in just ordinary people helping others.

This was recently aired here on TV, and it wasn't too bad. I thought more could've been done with the story, but seeing the dead bodies was enough to send shivers up my spine. Toni Collette was the only actor i knew, but the cast were good.
