Saw this movie playing on foxtel and was pleasantly surprised. I love Olivia Wilde ever since I saw her in The OC. I didn't think it was very horror/gore-ey but I still really enjoyed it. The underwater scenes had me sitting on the edge of my seat! Some beautiful places filmed in the movie too.
Turistas is not the cautionary horror nightmare we'd like it to be, nor the crappiest escape thriller ever we expected it to be from those awful one-sheets. It's just a warmed-up plate of tight, violent and meaningless entertainment that follows the recent successes of extremely graphic horror entries. Not that it hurts anyone, except a bunch of screaming young adults.
Frankly, there's not much to be remembered here. At least it's not ridiculous; I mean, the last twenty minutes think they are so breahtless and intense they're rather pitiful, but still, the tone is set and never let up. Realism is the key-- and yeah, why not, it works, for about fourty minutes. The performers, all serviceable, make it all seem kind of likely, and their decisions are not that stupid, at least by slasher standards. True, the photography is outstanding, and it feels very theatrical, but unfortunately, once the tourists' nightmare trip spirals down even more, it's more... unpleasant, let's say, than thrilling. It practically gears into the classic chase mode, offing characters one by one until the predicted three walk away from the carnage. They take a plane. The End.
Certainly director John Stockwell offers us his most valuable effort yet (even though it's not saying much)-- he still can't manage to correctly assemble an above-decent film.
I wasn't asking for much-- and I got what I expected.
Um this was interesting... i mean who doesn't like a tale of when tourists get chopped up for organs for the black market... Um worth a watch but not so nice if ur an american..
Yea,I liked this one.Have seen it a few times now and still wish there would've been more actual "horror"There wasn't much of that, just a lot of running around for most of the movie. It was a little like Hostel and Wrong Turn had a love child.
The only likeable character in the movie, the country of Brazil itself, only has about three or four lines! That wouldn't be so bad if the rest of the film weren't such a turd.
I have to say that this is one of my favorite horror movies to date. It deserved alot more credit that it got. Lets start with the plot, unique, originall, and very captivating. Gore was deffinitly there. From just hitting your head on a rock to having your organs harvested piece by piece. Acting was great. Just like any film there was some bad parts. It took a little while to get to the plot, but not to long. And once you get there trust me it is worth it. Turistas is an intense horror-thriller that is gurenteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. I would recomend this film to anyone who is looking for an edgy all original horror film. Check this one out.
A movie where you sit there and think how stupid these people are but still can't stop watching. My one big negative is some of the scenes were set in dark places which made it hard to see things. Different kind of scary movie.
Alot of people didnt like this movie. I actually thought it was pretty brill. The setting rocked, girls were hot, and in a twisted way the tourist deserved it. lol. jk.
This movie is the typical dumb "white kids" going off to god knows where because its FUN! I really liked this movie athough the concept has been done over and over I can never get enough of these types of films.
Even though this horror film doesn't really offer anything in terms of its predicable and routine plot but I did still find it to be quite an entertaining watch. The cast were good, the direction was solid, the cinematography is nice (the underwater scenes are great and it was actually intense. In the end it isn't great by any means but it is stil a pretty solid film none the less.
A seemingly Hostel-like plot, but, in reality, they're nothing alike (with the excepting of one gory scene where they're removing major internal organs from a woman who is still alive!). Very good.... much more suspenseful than I had though. The water chase through the cave had me on the edge of my seat!
director of kate bosworth in "blue crush", jessica alba in "into the blue", this time of to direct of horror film with melissa george(of '05 "amityville horror").
boy...what a horror gore film i seen about something horror in brazil.
A group of tourists in Brazil gets drugged, robbed and is about to be killed for their organs (to be sold to rich americans). Think "Hostel", but minus a lot of torture and you get "Turistas", a bleak and boring 'you-have-seen-it-before' horror movie. It's not that bad at first, but the story seems to go nowhere and the ending is just a big bore. Even big time horror fanatics can skip this one.
Turistas took way too long to get anywhere and it was only an hour and a half. Too much time was spent on these gringos being chased. It was boring. Fergie?s boyfriend is cute though.
What started out as a promising film ended in a confusing and somewhat dull anti-climax. The cast were fine and the story was more unsettling than others in the genre because it was more believable. What was disappointing however was the lack of gore which a film of this sort normally has. With the exception of one gruesome scene horror fans will be disappointed. The final scenes in the underwater caves were a confusing mess and ruined the climax (2.6.08)
I was excieted about this one, thinking its been a while since i enjoyed hacking up annoying 20 somethings but once again i found myself shouting at the screen and tahking my head. The bad guys weren't as bad as they could have been the 20 somethings were more stupid than ever before and it left me with a sense of disapointment they hadn't all died.
