Foreign, Kurdish. A pretty good movie! This movie shows you things, that you don't think about during war. About a boy that tries to maintain order, for a group of orphans during war and sees the girl of his dreams and what he goes through to sway her affections. The end is a middle-eastern ending, which doesn't translate to well to western cultures, but a good movie is a good movie and I liked it! I would recommend it.
Incredibly sad Film. The children with their real tragedies, I cried when I watched it. Satellite who tries to forget his problem by solving others problems. Worrying for the other kids so he won't worry about himself and find out that he's just like them, miserable, alone and simply a kid.
A must see film for everyone who wants to see the reality of war and its effects on children of one particular village. The scenes with the children scouring the battlefields for land mines is frightening. This has got to be among the most powerful films I have come across. If you can find a copy, do see it.
One of the most moving stories i have ever seen and also one of the best foreign language movies i have ever seen. All the actors in this movie have given terrific performances. Go watch this movie if you haven't seen it yet. Strongly recommended to everyone.
I little bit pointless & annoying, but really sad . Childish kids are the best spices for this movie . I liked the war setting & but i was expecting bout the 'war' not the 'b4 war' ...There's a bit funny facts in this movie. But,its satisfying enough...
I can't say anything about this movie. Really really good. Nyeritain xoal kehidupan anak2 di Irak dlm peperangan. Bgs bgt, bkn perangx yg diutamain (mlh dlm film ini g ada adegan perangx sama skali). Tp ttg efek dr perang, ada yg pny anak haram, ada yg tanganx buntung, buta, dll. Bgz bgt nih film, g cm bkn t'haru xoal p'juangan pemeran2x, tp jg ada lucunya kok!!!
One of the most desperately sad films I have ever seen. The thought that there are children living every day through this kind of hell on earth is chilling. Turtles Can Fly calls much-needed attention to the plight of the exiled Kurdish nation.
Kurdish director Bahman Ghobadi's finest moment. A refugee camp filled with real Kurdish orphans on the Turkish border; the American invasion is about to happen and everyone is asking young "Satellite" what is going on. He's the leader of the children but not a gangster; more of a protective teen. His new friend, the armless boy, has a secret about his own nephew.
this movie is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The movie has substance. The little girl has done a marvelous job. The war is all around us. Everybody is fighting for something. The characters have adopted a war-lifestyle with some providing, some leading and some just living on other's mercy. 'Depressing' is really what you feel at the end.
Though this movie is extremely depressing and disturbing, it does portray a very strong message. This was definitely a movie that I had trouble sitting through, it really made me realize what a terrible world we do live in. The story was very powerful, and the message really got across to me. The acting was also very well done by all the children. I have to admit this movie really moved me. I feel that this movie was very well made and the story is also very powerful and good. Though it may be a hard movie to sit through I would still definitely recommend this movie.
Although this movie is fiction, every thing about it is incredibly real. The children who act in this film are absolutely amazing...just as good as, if not better than, any Hollywood kid I've ever seen. This movie is funny and sad...tragic but hopeful. A true diamond in the rough.
A very depressing movie about Iraq war. It's a story about bunch of children who are trying to survive in brutality of war. I always think it's difficult to handle simple things. The director well handle the simple plot and made an enthralling movie out of it. War movies always have their effect on audience but I guess affect of this one will stay for a long time.
An interesting story about Iraqi kids living in a refugee camp on the border of Turkey anticipating the Iraq War and hoping for the fall of Sadaam. The kid actors are actually refugees and improvised a lot of scenes, so it is neat and effective. The story itself can be depressing, but it is well made and shows a different side of a conflict.
Incredible performances from a cast mainly comprised of children and teens. Director Bahman Ghobadi blends day-to-day experiences common to people everywhere (falling in love, being asked to do something you don't really know how to do, etc ...) , with some of the realities of life in a Kurdish village in Iraq before the (most recent) war, to create an incredibly moving film. It is at once specific to its time and place, and universal. There is horror and humour, honour and compassion.
Watching this film was probably one the most absorting and real experiences I had in front of a screen... It's one of those films that will just stick with you no matter what! Definatly not uplifting, but not too sentimental either, makes you think that you really don't have anything to complain about, and you might remeber it whenever you feel like giving up in the near future...
