  I don't know...I kind of liked it. It's a litte different and a bit wierd. But it feels like a mix of Resident Evil, Blade and Sin City. And those are all good movies. I'm not gonna try to convince someone that it's good. Cause I know that I'm wrong. I read that a lot of other reviews calls it hard to understand...And sure...It's a little (a lot) random. But I think everything is explained pretty well in the begining. I also thought the final scene with the burning swords was pretty cool. I understand that it's easy to hate this movie...but I didn't think it was that bad. A little disapointed though that she didn't say "Watch me" again at the end....she was building up for it.

  First, they made her a weapon. That was their second deadliest mistake. Now, they've made her a target... The story of this movie is decently good, fighting scenes were okay and some effects were cool too, said that it's all down hill from there, the scenery looks really fake and the acting was abysmal. This is all the director's fault to me. It had some potential, the action sequences look a little mundane as we have seen it all before but they are quick and effective. The story is quirky enough to be interesting and some of the backdrops look good. Director use 30 million to budget this film, are you serious? The problem is, Ultraviolet neither makes sense nor holds together as a film. Huge chunks of action and story seem to have been lost on the cutting room floor. The film is left overloaded with the expensive bits that had already been paid for. Lots of sweeping city-scapes and shots of Milla walking down corridors don't make a film.Watch this film if your a Milla Jovovich, everyone else your just wasting your time. In the mid-21st century, the Hemaglophagic virus (HGV), an obscure virus from Eastern Europe which was being used to breed stronger and faster soldiers, escaped the laboratory. Once infected, people have a lifespan of about 12 years, but first they are reduced to "hemophages" (aka "vampires"). They take on many characteristics including extended eyeteeth, regeneration, accelerated reflexes and increased strength. One of the victims is Violet Song jat Shariff [Milla Jovovich]. Because she was infected while pregnant, Violet was secured to a holding camp to be studied. Most of the other hemophages have been wiped out, thanks to the actions of Vice cardinal Ferdinand Daxus [Nick Chinlund], who is determined to wipe out every last hemophage. But the hemophages aren't going to be led like sheep to their slaughter. Hemophages have united, and their resistance and terrorist attacks have become known as "the Blood War." It is 12 years later. The scientists terminated Violet's pregnancy, and she has managed to escape the camp and join the Hemophage Underground. After infiltrating the Archministry by posing as courier XPD154, Violet finds herself in possession of a case that contains the ultimate weapon against Hemophages, one that will wipe out the entire hemophagic population. When ordered by her Hemophagic superior, Nerva [Sebastien Andrieu], to destroy the case without opening it, which will set off a bomb that will destroy everything a block around, Violet refuses to comply and opens the case to discover it contains a child. It is both a weapon and a child, she is told. The child contains antigens that will wipe out all existing Hemophages. What is Violet to do...destroy the weapon or protect the child? The child is a ten-year human named Six [Cameron Bright], because he is a clone of eight. He has been raised all his life in a laboratory and knows very little about life outside. Violet takes Six to be examined by her Hemophagic friend Garth [William Fichtner], who learns that Six has only eight hours to live and that he is outfitted with a tracking device, so Violet must keep moving lest Daxus catches up with her. Unfortunately, Nerva has made a deal with Daxus and learned that Six doesn't contain an antigen against Hemophagia but against the entire human race, so Nerva seizes Six with the idea of using him against the humans. Violet sets Six free again. In the time they have left before Six dies, Violet takes him to the park. When the time comes, Violet is at his side, but Daxus and his henchmen show up to claim the body and kill Violet. Fortunately for Violet, Garth manages to retrieve her body before Daxus's incendiary team can destroy it. After several hours of surgery, Garth is able to bring Violet back to life. Violet goes into a deep depression but recovers when she senses that Six is not dead and that he needs her help to get away from Daxus. Violet storms the Archministry just as Daxus is about to saw into Six's brain. Violet single-handedly wipes out everyone in the Archministry except for Daxus. As they face each other, Daxus tells Violet the truth about himself...he is actually a Hemophage, too. Violet defeats him with a flame pistol and her sword. Epilogue: Violet carries Six to the roof and reawakens him. Six is surprised to still be alive; a flashback reveals one of Violet's tears at the park infected him and he is now a hemophage. He tells Violet that there is a cure for Hemophagia.

And the movie was like a dream that has no clue. Random places pop out of nowhere. The fighting scenes seemed to be lame. Like seriously lame. As if they were practicing karate. The ending was pathetic. It was painfully boring. I regret watching this and I don't recommend anyone to waste their time like I did. I watched it as I expected this to be great because Milla Jovovich was there. But she disappointed me. <b>Greatly</b>.

I'm guessing the budget was tight though eh, still, must have saved a bit by not hiring a writer. Ultraviolet is an odd film, it looks like a bad video-game and has a storyline to match. The script is awful, although there are some hilarious moments (Are you mental?) and the effects are just headache inducing. It biggest flaw is it's lack of character development and the most unbelievable part of this SGI film is the relationship between Violet and 6. It's not 'So bad it's good' either but I can't help but think it's going to become a cult classic. Laughable but not hate-able.

  Good but really boring exhausted plot line. Script written with no thought but the special effects are amazing and you must add this to your list if you can watch it as Blu-Ray. The Blu-ray version is hot!

  Despite all the negativity surrounding this picture, Kurt Wimmer produces an enjoyable science fiction action adventure. Sure, Wimmer's previous film <i>Equilibrium</i> is no doubt better than this, but <i>Ultraviolet</i> does have its moments.</p><p>The pacing is fast. The run time doesn't even reach 90 minutes and there is a butt load of action to go around. It is amazing that Wimmer finds the time to get a story going in this picture. Yes, it isn't deep and it isn't anything special, but there is something to tie things together.</p><p><i>Ultraviolet</i> relies heavily on CG and most people will think it is very cheap looking. I won't disagree with that because some of it does look cheap, but I think this movie is successful at creating a visual atmosphere of a comic book. The opening credits lay it all out on the table. The rest of the film uses bright colors and airbrushed looks for the characters that all go back to that comic book style.</p><p>The action is a plenty and it is fantastic, albeit a little quick at times. Kurt Wimmer borrows concepts from his previous film <i>Equilibrium</i> and he morphs it with some <i>Ultraviolet</i> flavor.</p><p>Milla Jovovich is no stranger to this type of role and that is why she easily pulls it off. Nick Chinlund is an OK villain and the rest of the cast is pretty much forgettable.</p><p>At the end of the day, <i>Ultraviolet</i> is the type of film for those that enjoy Milla Jovovich, action, straightforward stories, and science fiction themes. All others can feel free to watch something else.

The action is adequate but stifles under unnecessary melodrama and overwrought framing: in the end, the action is the only thing you can defend this film with, and it's "good", in the way that every other action sequence nowadays is "good" Still, it is perhaps on of the most successful uses of a filter-effect in a film: subtle and not mindlessly applied for sheer effect. Sadly, the image filter is perhaps the only thing in this film that is not applied for sheer effect... due to a dearth of substance.

  The filmmakers have had a huge attempt to create something totally new and astonishing like "The Matrix" back in 1999. Well, it only is an attempt. I can't remember when did I last see a movie where I almost dozed off. The story is set in the future and there's a civil war between the government and these blood infected humans aka "vampires". Well, fuck me sideways and set the truth free. The truth is... It's crap. But because they did have an effort to create something with a "wow" factor, I'll give an extra half of a star.

  This is a bit of a misstep for Kurt Wimmer, who really knocked it out of the park with his visual style in Equilibrium. The style is all still here - as well as a beautiful new colour scheme - but the story is lacking. You'll never guess what this movie is about from the get-go: vampires. This reminds me of Aeon Flux in its eye candy, but with all the flat characters and the nothing story, it doesn't amoung to much.

  The worst part about Ultraviolet is that it has THREE genres of movies to compete with. People will compare it to the blockbusters of Sci-Fi movies, Martial Arts movies, and Heroine movies. It will have a tough time trying to stand out when people will inevitably compare it to HUGE movies like Crouching Tiger, The Matrix, Kill Bill, Underworld, etc. Let's remember that Ultraviolet had a relatively small budget, and yet it did quite a bit with it. With all that said, let me say a few words, good and bad ones, on Ultraviolet. Yes, the story in Ultraviolet is its weakest point. The problem is in the lack of emotional attachment to the characters, the odd choice and delivery of lines (although you can't deny how great the "It is on." line is), and the strange dream-like stuff it goes into at times. A lot of the themes in this movie are very fleeting, maybe because they've just been done so often, they need no emphasis. There's one particular story element that you might miss ENTIRELY if you didn't pay attention during one shot. That's how little emphasis there is on story in this movie. The plot is also a little hard to follow at times because it jumps around. It's strange to see so little emphasis on the story when we know from Equilibrium that Kurt Wimmer is very capable of writing a good story. It makes me wonder if the lack of story was intentional or not, but the unfortunate bottom line is that it hurts this movie. So what saves this movie? Why 8 out of 10? If we were interested in movies only for their story, we wouldn't be interested in movies at all...we would all read books instead. Yes, a movie is defined as picture and sound. In that case, Ultraviolet is quite an amazingly interesting picture and sound. Ultraviolet sacrifices story for a very visceral picture and oodles of style. I haven't seen a movie that looks this COOL in a long time. It really reminds me of the type of style that 60's sci-fi movies were going for- very robust in color and costumes, but modernized and expanded for our time. It's certainly a very nice departure from the typical and BORING space station/stainless steel/green look of modern sci-fi. The action is kick-ass, applause-worthy at times...although I'll admit that I've seen a bit better from similarly-budgeted movies ("Versus" comes to mind). They could've had some more variety to it (like maybe some better/badder foes), but considering who and what they were working with, I think they did a good job. Another big strength of the movie is the very cool concepts. Color-changing outfits, gravity belts, disposable paper cellphones, crazy ninjas that drop out of planes like giant pinballs, and entire weapon arsenals stored in wrist devices. All of it with designer-quality fashion to it. You can tell where the budget went in this movie. Like I said, it's an older, weirder, more stylish sense of sci-fi that you don't see very often these days. In fact, a lot of this movie can be defined as set-pieces more so than a single flowing experience. True, their ability to execute some of these ideas (specifically, the motorcycle chase) is limited by their budget. I think it can be overlooked, though. Some rough edges on CG never hurt anybody...anybody that wants to whine about the graphics really doesn't want to appreciate the movie for what it is. Overall, I enjoyed this movie, more so for its visuals, music, concepts and set-pieces than for its story or characters. It's really quite interesting to look at. There are more moments in this movie that make me think 'awesome!' than in all of The Matrix trilogy. If this movie isn't a success, then I hope it at least inspires the movie that does get this particular formula just right.

  Ultraviolet is one of those films where you look at the stills and just don't believe it could be as bad as it's reputation suggests; and it does look glorious. In stills. I've described films as plotless in the past, but in this case it's actually an UNDERstatement! All there is to this film is plastic people cartwheeling through a videogame, loosely linked by a little techno-gibberish. Even the action is so sterile and affected that it makes The Matrix look like Raging Bull, and it's so without context that there is no suspense, no drama and therefore no excitement generated at all. The film it most closely resembles is Casshern; a film which, if it weren't for the heart at it's centre, would've quickly become a visually appealing but otherwise tiresome mess. Which is a pretty good summation of Ultraviolet. 1 star for the visuals, plus an extra 1/2 for the line "Are you mental?". And that's only because I find it so difficult to stay angry at Milla...
