Terrific thriller, only a let-down in comparison with Melville's great classics and that we get Richard Crenna instead of, say, Gian Maria Volonte or Lino Ventura. The (obvious) model train sequences ruin this for some. I have nothing to say to those people.

The two key heist sequences are mindblowingly good. The train sequence's methodical single-takes are great. Crenna, Delon, Melville - all you need to know. Great stuff. It doesn't feel like it "hits the mark" in the third act, but with how good everything else is, the film can be...( read more)

A major dissapointment. Melville starts of brilliantly with one of the finest intros to a crime drama I can think of. but the tale falls flat immediatly after. And the production value is extremely low.
