Wade affirmed a woman's constitutional right to have an abortion, President George W. Bush's conservative appointments to the Supreme Court threaten to overturn the decision and filmmakers Stephen Fell and Will Thompson set out to document what many consider to be the most controversial social movement in American history. Over the course of one year, Fell and Thompson were granted unprecedented access to pro-life groups, leaders in the movement, and fundraising campaigns that are working harder than ever to reverse the Roe v. Wade decision. With college credit offered to university students who communicate the pro-life message, it seems that activists of all ages are working to outlaw abortion. As the battle to determine a woman's right to privacy rages, however, many question what it really means to win the war. Interviews with over 70 of the pro-life movement's most active proponents and captivating archival footage combine to examine the social movement that has effectively split American politics right down the middle. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Jack Mathews, New York Daily News
Here's a movie everyone can hate. Anti-abortionists will hate it because, without any editorializing, [it] show the activists for the self-righteous zealots they are. And pro-choicers will hate it because the people and their propaganda are so odious.
-
David Edelstein, New York Magazine
Whatever your views on abortion, you need to hear the subjects of this film, if only to be able to fight them more effectively.
-
Matt Zoller Seitz, New York Times
The filmmakers suggest that this subject is innately unpleasant, and that if advocates on either side bring it into the open and provoke a visceral reaction from otherwise complacent foes, they've scored a small victory.
-
Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com
Whatever your personal feelings or political opinions on abortion, [directors] Fell and Thompson's film is likely to make you feel wretched. It's an uneven but fascinating survey of views and tactics in the contemporary pro-life movement.

John Anderson, Newsday
Unborn doesn't really add or detract from the debate -- you wish the directors had asked a hard question or two.
