Jeffrey M. Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
A well-paced, dumb, fun movie.
-
Chuck O'Leary, Fantastica Daily
A forgettable sequel to Seagal's best movie.
-
Emily Blunt, Blunt Review
This was just pathetic.
-
Steve Crum, Kansas City Kansan
Formula Seagal, no surprises
-
Luke Y. Thompson, New Times
Good set-up, well-shot, but Seagal never allows any villain to be much of a challenge for his character, which saps the tension.

Michael Dequina, TheMovieReport.com
Pardon me while I yawn.

Sequel to Under Siege with Steven Seagal reprising his role as Casey Ryback moves the plot from a battleship to a train. With this second feature in the franchise, director Geoff Murphy wastes no time to jump right into the action. This film is pretty good for a Seagal vehicle and it should definitely appeal to action buffs. Like the first film, the strength of the film lies in a great villain. Acted by Eric Bogosian who plays a computer genius that highjack's a train and seeks to use a weapon's satellite for his own sinister means. His on-screen presence is wonderful and he provides Seagal with a great challenge in terms of a foe. If you're looking for a fun popcorn flick, then this is a must see film to watch. I enjoyed the sheer mindless fun of it all, and though not perfect, Under Siege 2 should appeal to fans of the first. There's nothing original here, but this is entertainment and it most definitely will thrill and suffice your action needs. While the first had Playboy Playmate Erika Elreniak as Seagal's sidekick, this one strips away the pitiful eye candy, and adds a bit more seriousness to the film's plot despite at times being a bit tongue in cheek. This is one of those rare sequels that is just as good as the original, and I find this one to be a bit underrated and it overcomes it flaws by being a fun, thrilling ride. This film isn't as bad as what everyone says, so if you're in the mood for mindless popcorn action, give this one a shot. At times cheesy, but with added menace, this is a very good sequel to the original Under Siege.

A weak excuse for a sequel, on from Seagal's best, but we can forget this movie, can't we?

Geoff Murphy's directing credits may not look all that impressive, but <i>Under Siege 2: Dark Territory</i> is a pretty good action thriller.<p>This movie does serve as a sequel to <i>Under Siege</i>, but the story stands alone and this makes this picture completely watchable without having seen the first.<p>A bunch of terrorists want money, so they hijack a train and setup some fancy equipment to cause mass destruction around the globe. Luckily, Casey F****** Ryback is here to save the day.</p><p>Most of this 90+ minute film takes place on a train and it does serve as a nice setting for a hostage rescue situation. The action is a plenty and this is all that is expected with the usual shootings, beatings, explosions, and a decent knife fight near the end.</p><p>Steven Seagal is Steven Seagal. Katherine Heigl is beautiful. Morris Chestnut is partially entertaining and partially annoying. As for the villains, they are the stars of the show. Eric Bogosian is a delight to watch as the clever Travis Dane and Everett McGill makes a good foe for Steven Seagal.</p><p>There is nothing out of the ordinary with <i>Under Siege 2: Dark Territory</i>, but it is an entertaining film for those that want to see Seagal whooping some butt. "Chance favors the prepared mind."</p>

Under Siege 2 was a total flop

this is a terrible movie, but good for has-been celebrity watching! also i was disappointed that Seagal only snapped like 3 necks?!? cmon, Seagal.

Saw this in the cinema. It isn?t very good. One star for the chopping off of the bad guys fingers at the end.

Incredible <i>Die Hard</i> on a train with some amazing stuff and action sequences with Steven Seagal.

I'm a bit of a Bogosian fan, but he seemed at times a little too over the top as the villian. Seagal was his usual self in this film, kicking ass on a train instead of a ship. Not too bad of a film, but don't expect the same quality as the first.

The inevitable cash-in sequel to a decent original, this is not half as good, but still a million times better than anything else Seagal has done.

More of the same this time on a train. Not as good as the first but better than a lot of action films.

pretty good, not quite as good as the first

Under Siege is about Navy Seal Casey Ryback trying to stop terrorists on a hijacked train. The premise allows sounds exciting, but all you get stuck with is a lack of energy in the writing and no interesting characters. I found it laughable for Steven Seagal to do drama, in one scene we found out his brother died and he gives a casual expression with a smile. It also doesn't help your action movie when you literally give little explanation about your villains and a horrible motive. Another flaw with the writing is that you have an unmotivated actor like Eric Bogonsian giving one of the worst performances for a villain will guarantee your action movie won't be exciting. What I hated the most from the movie was the abrupt ending, I expected a lack of tension while viewing, but an abrupt ending that leaves the audience an unsatisfied feeling is unforgivable. You literally won't care about anything in movie, it's a bad sequel and it's a Seagal film.
Just like the plot, everything else is terrible. For starter you have a different director with a lack of energy and focus. The next problem is the obviously fake green screen that ruin some of the more exciting scene. If you think Steven Seagal hanging of a cliff and killing some bad guys sounds cool, to bad because moments like those have green screen and become boring just like the movie dramatic scenes. The action scenes are boring because Seagal comes out invincible in this movie, he even takes a sniper shot to the shoulder and says it was nothing. The acting, it's simply bad and not in a comedic way. I can't forget Seagal is a Turtle, when he's moving towards cover in a gun on top of the train he causally takes his time to move towards. The cinematography is boring to, the moving this cool moment when Seagal runs a away for another train on a collision course towards the one Seagal on and he runs while the bridge the trains are on are collapsing. Even that moment is ruined with bad special effects, bad shots, and most importantly a bad direction.
Under Siege 2 is a disappointment, even for a Seagal film. It's one of the worst sequel for a action movie ever made and it's the dullest action movie ever made.

Completely asinine, without the charm and witty script that carried the first one.

A great sequel to "Under Siege". Good action just like its first. Dark territory brings in its clever and upscale style of strategy and toughness for the viewers. A great film with great action.

This follow up to Steven Seagal's biggest hit is inferior to the first film, yet somehow more fun. Maybe it's just the ludicrous idea of so much action taking place on a train, the anything-for-a-thrill attitude, or a young Katherine Heigl that make it watchable. It certainly isn't for the villains who are either cookie cutter stiffs, or woefully miscast character actors who aren't the least bit threatening. Steven Seagal mumbles his way through his reprisal of former Navy SEAL, and master chef, Casey Ryback, who is travelling with his neice, Heigl. Eric Bogosian hams his way through the token role of the overly educated bad guy with a chip on his shoulder, and a really bad sense of humor. Everett McGill, as the mercenery leader, does the impossible...he out-mumbles Seagal.
But you don't watch a Steven Seagal movie because you are expecting great characterizations. You go to watch him kick butt. He does so in all manner of ways including by hangun, hand-to-hand, and knifepoint...just to name a few. That's what you paid for...that's why you watch. It's a fast paced movie that makes more use of it's locomotive setting than you thought was possible. In the pantheon of Die Hard clones, the original Under Siege is one of the best. As far as sequels to Die Hard clones goes, it's a more than respectable action piece that does right what Speed 2 did wrong.
