Plot: An attractive young woman is driving her car on a dark country road and singing along to the radio. She's running out of gas and so she pulls into a gas station (run by a jittery, stuttering Brad Dour...( read more read more... )if), but then flees what seems to be an attack, only to find the real threat in her backseat: a hooded killer with an ax who takes her head off with a well-aimed swing. You've heard the story before? Not surprising, given that it's one of the more famous urban legends borrowed for Urban Legend, a post-Scream exercise in self-referential horror. The students at an ivy-covered New England college are turning up dead, the victims of a serial killer who murders in the fashion of the "apocryphal" modern myths. It's all for the benefit of good girl with a dark secret Alicia Witt, the sole witness to most of the killings. Doe-eyed Rebecca Gayheart, as her gullible best friend, and Jared Leto, the ambitious campus journalist who tracks down the secret that hangs over the school, lead a cast of pretty young women, hunky guys, and campus characters, notably the suspicious professor Robert Englund, a genre legend in his own right as the star of seven Nightmare on Elm Street films. Take away the cheeky remarks and self-awareness and it's a throwback to the 1970s' rash of teen slasher movies, where sexually active teens are sliced, diced, and otherwise slaughtered in elaborate and ingenious ways. The increasingly preposterous film is no Scream, but the modestly stylish production has its moments. --Sean Axmaker

so out of date predictable and cliched its an embarissment. The formula doesnt even try to be original in any shape or form it is literally the same film as the millions of spoof parodies of this genre but minus the comedy. Watch i know what you did last summer or scream instead. hell watch scary movie rather than this bland drab rubbish

This was an OK horror movie. Most deaths were predictable and there was virtually no suspense that kept you on the edge.
I was hoping Robert Englund would have a bigger part, but his character hardly appeared in the movie at all.
The twist was all right, it even made the story slightly supernatural, which is both good and bad.
Overall nothing special, a mediocre horror movie that you watch when there's nothing better on tele.

I've heard people say this movie gets better with age. These people don't know what there talking about. This movie is, always has been, and always will be terrible.

This is a great slasher film putting the best twist on the stories we all love. I love the fact that for once the main character isn't so much to herself and that she isn't a blonde, like in all the movies that i've seen. She is smart and has a good reason to be afraid. A great movie.

The original - and probably best - movie about what would happen if the urban legends that we all know and love were real.

Kind of original by combining various urban legends together, but can get a little blah with the acting.

Fairly lame overall, but interesting to see all those urban myths brought to life, as ridiculous as they are...

Who doesn't love a good slasher flick, but what about one, that gets you wondering if you eat those pop rocks and drink that coke, will it actually make your stomach explode? Loved this movie.

One of my favorite horror flicks, they dont make quality ones like this anymore! Based around murderous urban legends gives it a solid base to work with helping hands from several horror movie legends and witty writing. I don't think its highly predicatable which is a bonus and has a good array of recognisable faces.

Just another one of those Scream rip offs that offers nothing new to the table. However, I'll give it that it was pretty enjoyable, featured great deaths, and was funny.

I think this movie is unique. I liked it. I think it was original compared to the other cliche horror movies. I still think that it was predictable and all that jazz but wasnt half as bad as i expected.

Mind you, gotta love the cameo from the horror movie pop in, Brad Dourif.
