Terribly long movie. Kurt Russell doesn't cut it as a fast talking used car dealer. The funniest thing to me about this movie was the dog.

One of my favorite comedies of all time. What a cast. This film is still damn funny

My least favourite of all of Robert Zemeckis' movies, but a fairly amusing (not to say really wacky and kinky) comedy in any case. The plotline, about two rivaling used cars salesmen who will go to any length to put the other out of business, is pretty much as simple as it gets. ...( read more)Perhaps a little too simple, as it would probably have worked better as an SNL sketch or something, as opposed to a full-length movie. It sure has its moments though and was funny enough to be worth the watch.

Rober Zemeckis actually directed a fun movie in his career? With Kurt Russell dressed in full disco gear? And it's actually an acid comedy instead of some stupid feel-good crap? Damn, hollywood did used to have better days.

The only R-rated movie from director Robert Zemekis is one of the great unsung comedies of the 1980's. Kurt Russell is at his best as Rudy Russo, a fast talking used car saleman that will do anything for the sale. He's so adept at lying, cheating, and telling people what they wan...( read more)t to hear, that he realizes his true calling...politics. His boss agrees to loan him $10,000 so he can buy a local election to the state senate. But his boss dies before he can give him the loan, so now Rudy has to sell every car he can to come up with the money. He's hampered in every attempt by his boss' nefarious brother, who just happens to own another used car lot across the street. As politically incorrect as they come, the movie is a non-stop laugh riot that holds up today, despite the trappings of being made in 1980. While Kurt Russell is the star, the movie belongs to the late Jack Warden, who plays the dual parts of Roy and Luke Fuchs. Luke, the kindly one, and Roy, the ultimate sleazeball. There are so many classic scenes in this movie, it's impossible to list them. But the standouts have to be the two illegal commercials Rudy and his co-workers broadcast during a football game, and the presidential address. Suffice it to say that neither one goes right, and we get results ranging from full frontal female nudity, to exploding cars. Also there is a scene where the salesman are in full swing and telling people everything they want to hear to sell a car. They even get their dog to play dead so a potential customer will feel guilt ridden about running the dog over, that he'll buy the car. The movie got buried in its initial release, opening the same day as Airplane. As great as that movie is, Used Cars is even funnier. The dvd of this movie contains an audio commentary by Robert Zemekis, Kurt Rusell, and co-writer Bob Gale. It is the single greatest commentary in dvd history, and the stories they tell about making this movie are even funnier than the movie itself. Believe me, that's saying something.

This is a riotous account of two feuding used-car businesses. Jack Warden and Kurt Russell are both excellent in this overlooked comedy. Fine support is offered by Frank McRae, Gerrit Graham, and Deborah Harmon.

Kurt Russell in a comedy that actually works! Great debut for director Zemickis and producer Spielberg. Jack Warden is a hilariouis nemesis in this wacky comedy about the used-car business. Very underrated and funny. For fans of Russell!

Very funny movie. I remember the very first time I saw this I laughed so hard when the hooker gets her dress caught on the hood of the car.

The hood went up, and the dress ripped off. They were shooting a live pirate commercial during a football game broadcast.

So funny. ...( read more)I should own this movie.

Before he made 'Back to the Future', and even 'Romancing the Stone', Robert Zemeckis was a director who (with Bob Gale) wrote films that played huge with audiences yet no one ever showed up to see them. 'Used Cars' was one of the primo examples of a flop that didn't deserve the t...( read more)reatment it got. I'll admit, I've owned the film for a couple of years now but I've never watched the full, uncut version that was released in theatres until I showed it to my sister and dad. This was the only film Zemeckis made that was R-rated, with profanity, nudity, sexual content, and rauncy humor showing up at every turn. The movie stars Kurt Russell as Rudy Russo. He's the best salesman Luke Fuchs has, played by Jack Wardon. That is if they can only get the customers on the lot that his brother Roy (also played by Jack Wardon) has on the lot across the street. Russo's ambition is to run for State Senate, but he hits a snag when Luke has a massive coronary right in front of him. His brother knows that he's dead, but he has no evidence, but Rudy needs quick cash, so he and his co-workers decide to make fake commercials that interrupt not only a local college football game, but also jam President Carter's address to the nation. It's this moment that is the high point of the movie. When you see the movie, you'll know why. Then, a problem arises. Luke's long-lost daughter Barbara (played by Deborah Harmon) comes into the picture. She's everything that Russo's not. She's honest and trust-worthy, and she's also got a lot to learn. Predictably, they fall in love while he tries to hide the truth. It all leads to a finale that is as crazy as the rest of the film. It's one of the funniest films you'll ever see in its first hour, but its second hour is not as funny, although it still has its moments. But if you can stand rauncy humor, and a dated Disco joke, then I think you'll enjoy this movie quite a bit. Give it a try. "Trust me!"

A highly enjoyable movie starring Kurt Russell, who is one of my favorites, as a smarmy used car salesman. I've always been a fan of Bob Gale and this movie has a lot of funny moments. I almost died laughing during the scene where the boss has a stroke.
