It is the late 1980's. At a high school dance, young nerdish-looking Jeremy Melton is spurned & insulted by every girl he asks to dance, except one named Dorothy. Later they start making out under the bleachers until a group of bullies discover them, and Dorothy says Jeremy attacked her. The boys further humiliate Jeremy by violently assaulting him & pulling off his clothes. About 12 years later, those same girls are in their twenties and enjoying the dating scene. But Jeremy has mysteriously disappeared. After one of the girls, Shelley (Heigl) has a date with an arrogant loser, she is savagely murdered in her medical school's anatomy lab by a tall, sinister man dressed in a dark coat and wearing a cherub mask. Just before her death, Shelley received a threatening Valentine's Day card. The other girls soon start receiving similar cards shortly after, and one at a time, they start dying violently. When police inform them that Jeremy Melton has not been seen or heard from for many years, Dorothy (Capshaw) speculates that he may have had plastic surgery and worked out to change his appearance. Kate (Shelton) has recently found herself a new boyfriend (Boreanaz) but Dorothy suspects he may in fact be Jeremy, using his new look to get close to the girls who spurned him so many years before...and seeking revenge...
Valentine fits along the lines of the horrible batch of "teen horror" movies. This one tries so hard to take itself seriously, but ends up becoming a tiring, dull, cliche ridden movie. The plot is ripped-off from countless other movies that came before it. A young boy at a junior high school dance, gets tortured by his classmates. As we all know he comes back when everyone is all grown up to murder them. The acting is fake and uninspired, greatly lacking suspense or much action for that matter.
There are minor things that save this movie from a complete zero, and that is some of the killing scenes are nicely done, and the plot twist at the end (which looks like it was just thrown in at the last minute really).
I can honestly say this is one of the worst horror/thriller films I have seen. It started out promising, but as the story and deaths progressed, it all just became stupid and pointless. Towards the end, I was just bored with it, and the ending didn't make any sense what-so-ever. In all, they were trying to be clever and have little twists and flashbacks, but they didn't tie up loose ends or leave you wanting more. Very disappointing.
Fairly run of the mill teen popcorn horror movie. It's one that I have had on my list to check out for years but never got around to it cause it has Marley Shelton and David Boreanaz in it. Also in it is Denise Richards, Katherine Heigl and Johnny Whitworth. The movie was full of cliches, and the 'twist' like at the end of all of these type of movies, was kinda predictable. Guy in a mask after a bunch of girls... yep.
It was one of those movies I was smacked for blowing the ending by the time the opening credits were over. I ultimately hated myself an hour and a half later.
This really could have been a good throwback of those cheesy 80s slasher that we all miss so much. But instead it turned out pretty bad. The acting, plot, and script were terrible. But some of the kills were good.
A real crazy movie. I love the way he kills people and the twist at the end. You kinda already knew who did it, but it still kinda left you with a mouth dropper when the twist was pulled.
The killings should've been a little more Valentiney. Like somebody should've had an arrow shot through their heart and stuff. That would've been so kickass.
Awful stereotypical teen slasher with no surprises and poorly written dialogue (for some reason, the characters feel they have to the say the name of the person they're talking to in every sentence). A couple decently orchestrated death scenes, but nothing outstanding. Mediocrity and failure are the two main words on this movie.
Average slasher thriller. Not even average actually. I think the film makes you hate all the dumb girls so much, you actually become on the side of the killer. This film is too predictable for my liking and very repetitive. I mean how many times does each character have to shout 'Hello, Anyone there?' when they hear a strange noise. At the end I was just waiting for the guys nose to bleed, it was so simple. Give it a miss.
It wasn't one of the best horror films I've ever seen, but I did like it. Not to mention the fact I love David Boreanaz, I really like the way he plays a bad guy. He does it real well.
Not bad. I do have to say that it could have been better, but is still worth watching. The psychological horror produced in this movie is quite easily pictured as a reality.
