Valkyrie is a well told little-known true story about officers inside Hitler's staff that attempt to assassinate him. Anchored by strong acting and excellent, fast-paced political narration, Valkyrie still never seems to lift off. It's a very nice pseudo-documenta...( read more)

Dull misfire, woefully miscast with British thesps. Does manage to create some tension as to just when they will fail but has no feeling of authenticity what so ever.

Much better than I expected, the film is a taut, suspenseful, smartly-written and directed thriller with an excellent ensemble. The true story is fascinating enough, and the movie good enough, to be engaging despite the recognizability of its star.

Critic Reviews
Tom Cruise's ego-driven "Look at me; aren't I heroic?" performance detracts, but it's just too compelling and the other performances too pitch-perfect for this to ruin things. full review
As a suspense movie, this works pretty well. full review

Valkyrie doesn't whip you up like that Jewish vigilante avenger picture Defiance, but in this season of throat-grabbing Holocaust movies, its gentlemanliness is most welcome. full review
The problem is not that we know the outcome. The problem is the buildup. full review
Think of Valkyrie as a reasonably entertaining drama about the time Tom Cruise tried to kill Hitler. Do that, and it becomes possible to enjoy the movie. full review
Valkyrie is a World War II thriller without enough thrills. full review
Singer has a masterful touch with composition, creating tension simply by the way he places his actors around a room. And even though we know how it turned out, the assassination plot remains a grippi... full review

December 17, 2008I saw the prescreening.. aside from Tom Cruise.. the plot was great and the casting of the British actors made this great.. even better is Bryan Singer as the director actually kept the ball rolling.. worth watching.. I was very very impress with what the actors were speaking and it just great... just watch it..
