colin farrell was in this? didn't even notice him. must've been one of those effective performances. it's a bit of a weak 4 for me but it just about earns it with its realism and gritty disposition

Shocking Irish drama with the expected stellar performance from the talented Cate Blanchett. We've seen the 'troubled reported butting heads with corrupt organisations' story before, and this is no more interesting or even innovative, but the shocking final scene gives it some te...( read more)sticles and Blanchett's performance is pretty outstanding. One of those films that leave you thinking for a few days afterwards. Worth a rental.

Aside from the state of Dublin that is shown at the begining of this film, there were no real surprises here for me.

Though a bit predictable at times, it is still a good film.

As sad as it is to say, it is people like Veronica Guerin (who do the right thing to spite the ...( read more)risks involved) that keep us progressing as a society.

Their stories must be told to remind us that unless we fight for what is right, we will remain bogged down in everything that is wrong.

I consider myself a huge Cate Blanchett fan, but I have to say her "Irish" accent here was a bit dodgy at times, but the performance was otherwise a very powerful one.

AMAZING film about standing up for something when no one else will. It's called "mediocre" but I disagree; it's very very powerful, and Cate Blanchett is wonderful!.

A grand film all around for the actors and the script. Cate Blanchett shines as the fact based story of a very outspoken and hardworknig Irish woman. Many things come at a cost being threatened is just the beginning. The very talened Brenda Fricker co-stars along with Colin Farrell.

Powerful stuff based on true story of a brave lady journalist. Very much watchable.

Cate Blanchette is a reporter who will do whatever she has to get the story she needs.

    Reqiem For A Journalist!
I thought this was a very well done movie. It was real, it was serious, it was funny. Blanchette already being an amazing actress did yet another amazing job with this character. If you look at a picture of the real Veronica Guerin and Cate Blanchette in...( read more) character there almost identical as well. Blanchette did not disappoint with this movie and I think captured the character well, her looks, her personality. She played the part of a journalist really well.

Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer

The movie never adequately explains the inner conflicts that led its relentless-reporter heroine to die. full review

Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times

A woman died that day in 1996, not a saint and not a symbol. Despite its excesses, Veronica Guerin comes tantalizingly close to introducing us to her. full review

October 17, 2003
Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

A smart, brisk thriller. full review

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Cate Blanchett plays Guerin in a way that fascinated me for reasons the movie probably did not intend. full review

October 16, 2003
Claudia Puig, USA Today

Made gripping almost single-handedly by Blanchett's superlative performance. full review

October 16, 2003
A.O. Scott, The New York Times

A flat-footed, overwrought crusader- against-evil melodrama. full review

October 15, 2003
Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

The film's laughably hokey and naďve coda leads us to believe that, as a result of Guerin's efforts, drugs were forever banished from Dublin. full review

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

[A] well-meaning but by-the-numbers biopic. full review
