peter berg directs this quite dark tale, of murder amounst friends, with a sharp wit about it, and sence of fun, slater does his manic turn as seen in heathers, his best jack nicholson routine, jon faverou also, in a good role,
It was refreshing to see such a different dark comedy, Peter Berg is excellent as a writer director, a great casting job and a highly recommended flick for all with an hour an a half to waste. Wonderful imagery and nice soundtrack too... bonus.
Not to say this isn't a good movie, I just feel a bit shameful having watched it. There are sparks of comedy, but too often scenes play out awkward and drag on. I expected more than what I got.
this is quite posibly one of the greatest movies i've ever seen . you never know who is going to die next , and nobody really wants to kill anyone , there all friends , it's fucking brilliant , mr. berg hits the nail on the head , on this one
I usually like black comedies....this is one of the best. The first time I watched it I kept think WTF? OMG! it wasn't predictable like so many movies out there. Great cast too! Leaves you thinking WTF what could happen next? all the way through to the credits.
Cameron Diaz plays Laura Garrety, a selfish, whiny bride-to-be. She's getting married in three days to a handsome fellow named Kyle Fisher (Jon Faveau). She isn't happy with his decision to travel to Vegas with his friends for a bachelor party. They include two bickering brothers, Adam (Daniel Stern), and Michael (Jeremy Piven) as well as an organized but cruel real estate agent named Robert Boyd (Christian Slater), and a quiet mechanic named Charles Moore (Leland Orser). Once they arrive in Vegas, a stylistic montage sequence shows the five friends gambling, snorting cocaine, and drinking lots of alcohol. They settle in for the night at a fancy hotel, where a stripper (Carla Scott) arrives and lap dances the guys into a frenzy. Michael takes her into the bathroom for sex, but accidentally drives the stripper's head into a towel hook, instantly killing her. The rest of the men panic and want to call for help, but Boyd has a better idea. He wants to bury the body in the nearby desert. The intrusion of a hotel security guard complicates the issue. Boyd kills him with a corkscrew during a particularly unpleasant scene. The rest decide to use a chain saw to cut up the bodies and carry them to the desert in suitcases, where they do indeed put the unfortunate souls underground. "Very Bad Things" takes us on a roller coaster ride through immorality and its consequences. It's fun watching the sequences of events, the bodies piling up, and the exaggeration of our most improper impulses. A great cast demonstrates their fine acting abilities. The script, also by Peter Berg, features very smart, witty dialogue. Berg directs the chaos with an engaging style-especially during the scenes in Vegas, and keeps the momentum throughout the movie.
Christian Slater returns as a kind of yuppie big brother to his sociopathic character in Heathers in a film that tries terribly hard to be a "cult" black comedy. It shares some similarities with Shallow Grave, but where that film concerned a group of friends who find a dead body and dispose of it for money, leading to their psychological breakdown out of guilt for what they did, this film seems to think that brutal murder for self serving convenience is all a bit of a laugh. Every one of the characters are thoroughly dislikeable, from Cmaeron Diaz's clingy and manipulative shrew to the bachelor party's collection of whining, hysterical misogynists. I can't say that the film is badly made as it's decently directed and the cast do their best with the material they're lumbered with, but it is tasteless, morally dubious and misjudged on every level. And anyone who could possibly find it funny are as sociopathic as the collection of hateful w**kers it contains.
I actually liked this one when many didn't. Sorry all. It's so "Very Bad" that its good. How can so many bad things happen to so many people? And no redeming qualities about the characters that makes their perdicaments even more tragic of sorts
I wanted to love this movie. I tried so hard to. But I just couldn't. It wasn't that funny, and the dialog is sad. Dark comedy is my bread and butter, and what seemingly better way to make one than with Christian Slater, Daniel Stern, and Johnny F? Killing strippers and the hijinks that ensue upon returning to normal life should be much better than this. Its sad really...
A highly uninspired movie. All of the stars in this movie probably won't be owning up to these roles. The plot sucks, the characters aren't likable, the ending is shit. Please avoid this movie at all costs.
Delicious little black comedy. This film is a sick mix of thrills, suspense, comedy, drama and.. disturbia! It all starts out very (kinda) innocently, with a bunch of blokes heading off to Vegas for a bachelor party. But things take a nasty turn when there's an accident that leaves all the guys in a horrible predicament - To do the right thing, or do something VERY BAD! Once the horrible bits have passed, it's quite sick how enjoyable the rest of the film is. It's basically a tale about fate and getting what you deserve in the end, when you do bad things. I thought all the actors were brilliant and Cameron Diaz was the perfect bossy bride. Loved her scene at the very end! F.U.N.N.Y. Loved it all, this is a good one.
One of the funniest films of all time - very bad taste! An essential for stag night viewing (played well at mine!). Try taking a hefty shot every time something 'very bad' happens!
A very violently sickening comedy that will make your eyes and brain pop. The film is best looked at as a nightmare and once it's over you thank god that none of it ever happend to you!
Unbelievably overrated. It has it all - annoying actors playing annoying characters, overacting aplenty, and a jawdroppingly-shite (was it supposed to be outrageously bad-taste or something? Nah, it's just shite.) final scene. Why do film-makers keep employing Cameron Diaz, anyway? BIG pile of horrible cack.
This went beyond dark comedy into total tragedy. I watched it because it was to awful to stop. Not one redeeming quality to any character in the piece.
