Imagine the brilliance of combining The Great Escape with football. If The Great Escape didn't have you crying manly tears of true awesomeness into a nice cup of tea then this surely will. The use of real actors and footballing professionals really does give the film a more reali...( read more)stic edge than many sporting films. Well at least during the games and training. Not just for football fans, who may actually be too picky and disgruntled of Stallone being the lead. Uplifting, salute worthy and just a bit of fun. Sydow is also brilliant as a nice German officer, which I didn't get since we all know that Germans in war films are evil.

Took me 25 years to watch this... Truth is, it didn't desappoint me. Not at all. Probably 'cause I'm a football fan, but I thought the film was overall very entertaining and pleasant to watch. It mixes football very well with historical facts, reminding us of the role it can - an...( read more)d should - play in society, especially at the time portrayed. Besides, to see Pelé playing... the quality of the film itself kind of loses relevance.

Such a cheesy premise that you have to give it some credit for daring.

All the usual feelgood rooting for the underdog cliches, but it's fairly watchable because of the presence of some genuine stars. Helps if you like football, of cours...( read more)e...

caine - payday, typical character you would expect.
pele - like a retarded kid no one talks to in class.
sly - fuck off and do another movie, totally mis-casted.

liked the story and what they were attempting to get across, they should of just done it 10 years earlier.

we can learn the history of football by watching this movie~
Pele really can act= his goal is magnificent=

player's reaction after they scored goals are very classic~
I still can't forget Stallone's reaction when he save from the penalty spot=
huhu.. the match itself is not acting~ and that's what makes this movie rocks!
