Villa Des Roses won 3 independent film awards, was hailed as the new 'Amelie' and was recommended to people who liked 'Delicatessen'. First off, It's nothing like Delicatessen or Amelie, Frank Van Passel wishes he was as good a director as Jean-Pierre Jeunet but he's not. To be fair he probably never claimed to be, it is a mixture of lazy production and lazy journalism and you wonder if anyone actually ever watched the film in the first place. It tries so hard to be off-beat, quirky and unique but it never goes beyond odd, stupid and utterly dull. I've been wanting to see Passel's Manneken Pis for quite a while but I'm not sure I'll bother now. Save yourself and don't bother with this film.
