Plot: This film wraps up the big wrestling match that Terry Davis's novel left unresolved. It also makes Carla (Linda Fiorentino, in her screen debut) less of a bad girl. What it does capture is the book's ...( read more read more... )flowing feeling of power and the possibility of youth. Probably best known for presenting a just-emerging Madonna singing "Crazy for You," Vision Quest also uses Matthew Modine nicely. He doesn't typify the usual coming-of-age youth, but his character, Louden Swain, isn't the typical youth, period. Swain needs to win the Washington State wrestling championship, and he's up against a guy who carries logs up stadium steps. He's also involved with an older woman, Carla, and learning that love and all that stuff is much harder than pinning an opponent. Ah, youth. --Keith Simanton

Great acting and a great soundtrack help put this underrated sports classic over the top for me. This movie is the Hoosiers of high school wrestling.

Watched this over the weekend. TV was running a 80s retro weekend. It wasn't a bad movie. I liked the soundtrack... gotta love the LUNATIC FRINGE. The story was ok, and had some inspirational aspects. The kid had discipline and was willing to work hard towards a goal. You got to respect that. Not a movie I would watch over and over again, but good all the same.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I initially bought it for Madonna's short appearance, but the story was pretty good as well.

Early Modine and a different story arc. A wrestling movie with a good plot and some great 80s music. Great scenes with Madonna and Forest Whitaker but Matthew Modine kept it all together by giving a thoughtful character to the protagonist.

"wraps up the big wrestling match that Terry Davis's novel left unresolved"

Why would you do such a thing?!?!

I'm only assuming that they left it unresolved on purpose...

Great soundtrack to this classic tale of High school wrestling, and the first time love of Louden Swain, played by the adorable Mathew Modine. It is a chick flick with the sweet story of his ambition to beat the top wrestler in his county, and how he struggles to prove he can take on this goal and to also prove that he can find romance in an older woman played by Linda Fiorentino, although he has tough times reaching what he wants. Just one of them go getter movies, that has you cheering for him. A cute movie, but made for the young teenagers or the ones that want to relive the 80's. ;) With the opening music from Journey, this also has an awesome soundtrack to make the movie more better. :D

The essential chick flick of the 1980s. Helped catapult Madonna's career with that diabolical song "Crazy for You" and made teenage girls everywhere wet their panties. This movie's only problem is that Matthew Modine, who weighs, what? 140 pounds, wrestles that monster in the finals. That guy had to weigh 250. They have weight classes for that ya know?

It was my high school years all over minus the fact I sucked at wrestling and Linda Florentino never saw the size of my hands.

Couldn't give the full five because as a girl I couldn't fully appreciate the vulgarity... but as a wrestler, this movie rocked! Nothing else to say about this!

One of the best sports movies I have ever seen. Great story and great wrestling action. REAL WRESTLING....even though its a movie and probably choreographed...still...good, lol.

This may be more of a "Guy's Flick", but it was one of those great 80's movies w/ a killer soundtrack, which includes Journey, Red Ryder and Madonna.

Matthew Modine plays a great lead in this movie as a HS wrestler in love with an older woman. Though the movie is 22 years old this year, it's as great a flick today as it was back then.

It's the best movie about a wrestler out there. Admittedly so there are not many choices, but this is the best movie about a wrestler and it does have a very good story behind it.

Terry Davis wrote the novel that this film was based upon and he was my college creative writing professor, so I need to see this.

You know that you are a true wrestler if you've watched Vision Quest at least ten times. I myself own the movie and have watched it about two hundred times. I always watched it before a big tournament, especially nationals.
