    A killer of a script.

Twenty years later this movie still has a poignant message: greed isn't good. Too bad so many business people use Gordon Gecko as their fictional mentor.

oliver stone does big business and the power of the 80s, filmed in the 80s so not a nostalgic look back, sheen playing power mad bud fox, who plays a trader, and managews to get a top notch client in gordon grecco( michael douglas) hes a ruthless businness man and for fox to get ...( read more)in the door, he mentions his fathers airline company, which he then buys shares in and a major stake in the company and ruins it, much to fos,s disgust not to mention hes doing illegal trading on behalf of grecco, a fasinating look at wall street and the big business of 80s america, oviously looks dated today, big phones, shoulder pads, all the stuff are there, but still holds up almost 20 years later, it shows stone as a director looking for great subjects, and not just a vietnam one trick pony, what ever went wrong with sheen, he does platoon and wall street for stone and young guns, then he ruined it, oh well

On the surface, it seems dated, but the recent rerelease of the DVD proves the ol' Faust-ian tale is classic. Michael Douglas as Gekko is perhaps the best bad-ass in a Halston suit.

Gordon Gekko: This is the kid, calls me 59 days in a row, wants to be a player. There ought to be a picture of you in the dictionary under persistence kid.

That Charlie Sheen is an unsympathetic jerk in a film shot by one of my least favorite directors. Michael Douglas is the ONLY reason to watch this film.

OK. Good to watch. Couple of nuances. Douglas plays the confident guy well. Although... I saw Wonder Boys so I am not stereotyping him.

It's dated, but it's timeless. Great Ollie Stone one-liners, and convincing anti-hero acting by Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas. Inspirational, for all the wrong reasons. You can argue with Stone's depiction of women, but there is some veracity.

    Greed is good

Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) is a Wall Street stockbroker in early 1980's New York with a strong desire to get to the top. Working for his firm during the day, he spends his spare time working an on angle with with to approach the high-powered, extremely succe...( read more)ssful (but ruthless and greedy) broker Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas). Fox finally meets with Gekko, who takes the youth under his wing and explains his philosophy that "Greed is Good". Taking the advice and working closely with Gekko, Fox soon finds himself swept into a world of "yuppies", shady business deals, the "good life", fast money, and fast women; something which is at odds with his family including his estranged father (Martin Sheen) and the blue-collared way Fox was brought up.

A very good film by Oliver Stone and a brilliant portryal of the stock-market in America. However by the end of the film I felt like Michael Douglous' performance was the reason why I enjoyed it and not Charlie Sheen. There was just something about the ending which seemed predictable, and didn't shock me at all.

Wall Street is probably a little dated now and is not a timeless film that I thought it would be. Nonetheless it is very good, just not what I thought it would be. However, Wall Street is impeccably directed . Oliver Stone really captures all the elements necessary to the telling of this story, with all its moral, economic, and legal implications. Michael Douglas is almost frightening as the ghastly Gordon Gekko, a role for which he took home the Oscar for best actor. And the casting of Martin and Charlie Sheen as father and son lends authenticity to their numerous emotional exchanges.

I am not a Charlie Sheen fan at all. Martin Sheen is far superior to his son with his acting and does overshadow him in some scenes.

Overall, not a bad film. Perhaps I need to watch it again.
