Plot: Teenagers victimized inside a wax museum where the midnight show is recreating famous murder scenes.
A wild romp through the entire horror genre, smothered with cheese with a candied cherry on top. Yes, Waxwork is that bizarre. Horror fans will get a great kick out of this, if only to catch all of the references!
Whoever watches Waxwork and takes this movie seriously will probably not have a fun time with it. If before you watch this film and know what you're getting into, which is top-notch cheese, gory displays of bloody violence, bunches of corny ass one liners, and a shitload of classic Universal monsters running amok...then you'll probably be quite pleased with this movie. I for one loved Waxwork and I grew up on this film. The plot is quite original...
"A group of spoiled brat rich kids are invited to a special party at a new wax museum that sprung up over night in their neighborhood. Yeah, it strikes them as a bit odd that a waxworks was opened on a residential street, but they head over anyway. Our four friends roam the museum unattended and conveniently separate from one another. The museum itself is more like a chamber of horrors than anything else with one gruesome display after another. One by one each young adult steps into a display and are then transported directly into the exact scene and forced to play the part on display. Thrust into an alternate universe each one is made to fight for his or her life in a scene that resembles a classic horror flick whether it's involving a suave Dracula or the bite of a Wolf Man. If and when they don't succeed, they then become a permanent part of the scene as the waxwork becomes their new home. Two of them become part of the Waxwork while two escape, and needless to say they have a devil of a time convincing the police that something is wrong. Will our hero be able to put an end to the evil mastermind behind the waxworks before it's too late? Or will the prophecy be fulfilled allowing the Waxworks to take over the world?"
This movie is hell of a lot of fun and hilarious. A truly underrated hidden gem from the 80's and it's quite bloody too. The acting isn't that bad actually, in the sense that they all play corn balls extremely well, and the dialogue is so silly to the point where it becomes very funny. The makeup effects here are amazing, and it's always fun to watch a man being split in half by an angry werewolf, or even a vampire eating chunky flesh from a man's half severed leg. This movie is not at all about the scare factor, but more for the fun and entertaining eye candy as well as the silly gags. Waxwork is another good Halloweenie-feel horror movie, a good popcorn flick with all your favorite horror movie creatures in it...the wolfman, the vampire, the mummy, and my favorite waxwork segment in the movie, the zombies!
The ending part of Waxwork is truly classic. We get the ultimate battle between man and monster. When all the wax figures in the museum come back to life the humans fight back. Guns blazing, sword swinging, arrows flying through the air...a total and complete massacre(all though this specific fight wasn't that bloody, just very fun to watch). Also, don't expect this fight scene to be something out of a "300" movie, remember this was just a little B movie that's from the 80's. Not to be taken that seriously.
Get the popcorn and slide this DVD in. Waxwork is a cool little bloody, fun horror movie. Highly recommended.

A pretty good horror comedy about a wax works show that ends up being portals to actual dimensions where the wax depictions take place. Best is a NOTLD inspired sequence. The sequel is just as good.
i miss this film. it's been over a decade since i last saw this... guys please if u know where i can get a copy of this, pls tell me. thanks
A superb 80's Wax Museum horror film which does everything right. It's a great introduction with a group of kids being given mysterious invitations to a Midnight opening of a new Wax museum at a big old house. It then goes where I didn't expect, and introduces science fiction twists of time portals, which were a totally cool idea. I liked the different zones portrayed. There was good gore. The climactic battle in the museum at the end of the movie was well done. Very interesting movie.
Great classic cheese. It's tongue-in-cheek horror but it never gets to the point where the makers bash you over the head with it. See the unrated version only or don't bother.
Neat copncept. The final fight scene and the short but very well done zombie scene made this movie. The gore was also very well done.
A good idea but it should have been played more for laughs than it was. Some of the acting is terrible.
It's a corny movie with a lot of horrible acting, but I could have watched it even longer. There were several wax exhibits featuring different classic monsters and I think I could have just watched all of the exhibits.
A bit over the top, but it is fun to watch, especially getting to see all the different kinds of monsters. Has some really cheesy moments, but also has good moments as well.
Waxwork is one of the coolest b-movies I have ever seen. A group of spoiled teenagers decide to visit a wax museuam that showcases famous horror characters and urban legends. Problem is, they get sucked into the real-life scenario and are killed in gruesome ways.
Waxwork doesn't hold back on the gore. I'm talking people being ripped in half. For such a low-budget number alot of the production is extremely well-done. Plus the script is firmly tongue-in-cheek, making the proceedings more fun. Tag to that a great cast- David Warner and John Rhys-Davies are in the cast- you got a blood good time.
Vampires, werewolves, zombies, the mummy and an evil midget on helium. What more could you want in a horror film? Ok well this isn't just a horror film there is a nice bit of comedy thrown in. This actually has quite an original way of introducing the various movie monsters into the one film. Teenagers are put into a waxwork exhibit which then plays out a a scene based on the monster in the exhibit.
Horrible effects, a lame ill concieved story, and no nudity. The only thing this has going for it is a handsome country Dracula and a bad ending that mimics the Haunting.
