Plot: Weekend at Bernie's starts when two lowly clerks at an insurance agency uncover a $2 million fraud and report it to their boss, Bernie (Terry Kiser). Unfortunately for them, Bernie is the one b...( read more read more... )ehind the fraud, and he invites them to his island beach house for the weekend, where he intends to have them killed by his mob contacts. Unfortunately for Bernie, the mob decides to rub him out instead--and thus begin the necrotic hijinks. The clerks, Richard (Jonathan Silverman) and Larry (Andrew McCarthy), arrive and discover Bernie's body. At first they panic and start to call the police, but when a party of islanders sweeps in, Richard and Larry also discover that the local residents are so self-absorbed they don't notice that Bernie is dead. So if our heroes can just convince everyone that Bernie is still alive for they weekend, they can have a splendid time. Unfortunately, they also convince the mob hitman, who keeps trying to take Bernie out. Weekend at Bernie's was made at the height of 1980s fashion and features many amusing outfits and hairstyles--often the styles are funnier than the dialogue, and the characters are tissue-paper thin. Still, there's no denying that the movie chugs along from bit to bit and never takes itself more seriously than it should. A cheerful, disposable piece of fluff. --Bret Fetzer

Two guys find their employer's lifeless body at his beach house one weekend when he's supposed to be host a party. They pretend he's alive so they aren't framed for murder. Funny flick.

Weekend with Bernie was a late 80's classic comedy.

The actors are halarioius through out the entire movie and there's actually more to it then just two guys pretending there dead boss is still alive to enjoy a weeked.
There's also a little romance comedy behind it and just the realation with the characters - everyone wants one good weekend away from work, how far would you go to make sure you get one? In there case it's pretending there dead boss is alive!

Today we might be a little quick to take into consideration that this body would eventually smell and there is no reality beyond this flick, but how creative is it? Seriously! This movie is funny.

Didn't see the hype surrounding this so called comedy classic. Some funny bits with the dead guy, but all in all pretty lame.

When 2 million bucks can be gleemed from a jerk boss, some dudes try to infiltrate his party, but he dies, and they have to pretend like his body is alive. Oh, that's funny. They reanimate this body. Uhu. Funny for like two minutes.

Ok funny movie, for a back in the day sort of comedy but if it were rereleased I don't think it would make any money.

Silverman and McCarthy make a great team, and Terry Kiser is excellent as Bernie! However, the laughs are few and far between.

Remains a memorable film that most people have seen and is often quoted in society from time to time.

THe concept of keeping a dead guy around just cracks me up, who knew Andrew McCarthy could be so funny & a bit annoying.

Hilarious, totally off the wall black comedy about two buddies (Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman) whose boss, Bernie, has been bumped off by gangsters but whose death goes unrecognized the entire weekend by his self-centered beach friends. Utterly tasteless, goofy, ridiculous, wonderfully funny movie with loads of quirky characters. The duo of McCarthy and Silverman is almost flawless. They are wonderful to watch. Together they almost remind me of classic pairs like Laurel & Hardy or Abbot & Costello. His performance as the all too lively when dead Bernie is one of the funniest silent comic jobs in recent movies, as his semi-smile and sunglasses make him seem crocked more than dead to everyone dancing on the beach front at his house. All in all, a good comedy.

I really feel like this is a great satire on the indifference and selfishness of the people of the eighties.

The premise of propping up a corpse and pretending it's alive to fool people on a weekend retreat should get old after about 60 minutes... but it doesn't get old until 'weekend at bernie's pt II'

This is just great, black humor. It isn't the best movie in the world, but loaded with stupid jokes (mostly) about this dead guy. Recommended, especially if you're looking for something funny.
