Kin Lo's Fatal Love is a CAT III Chinese film from the early nineties. This basically means it is adult only. Don't get your panties in a bunch just yet, because in America it will hover around the R-rating and maybe cross over into the NC-17 area. The problem with this film is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. On one hand it is like a mystery drama and on the other hand it is an erotic thriller.
The concept of the story is decent, which deals with a beautiful cop working undercover to bring down a wealthy crime lord. Unfortunately, the story doesn't really play out this way. The first quarter or so is fine and dandy, but eventually the story dissolves and it almost seems as if you are watching a romance that isn't going anywhere.

The sex and nudity are plentiful, which is why this is a CAT III picture. It is almost at the point of a softcore porn, but like I mentioned earlier, it doesn't know what it wants to be, which is why it never reaches that point.

The violence is also a letdown. The film tries to fuse this in with the sexual elements, but in the end it all just seems corny. Even the one and only violent brawl is lame. Besides seeing Ellen Chan naked, the only part of this film worth mentioning is the ending. It ends a little abruptly, but story wise it may not be what you expect. This works in the film's favor.

I can't really say much about the acting except that it is OK. Ellen Chan and Michael Wong do what they need to do to carry this 90 minute picture, but don't do anything more than that.

In the end Fatal Love just falls short in almost every category and unless you want to see Ellen Chan get it on, just leave this one on the shelf.
