Weirdsville

Greg Bryk, Matt Frewer, Randy Butcher, Scott Speedman, Taryn Manning

When stoners Dexter and Royce mistakenly assume their friend Matilda has overdosed, they can't call the cops because she's OD'd on stolen drugs. So, they decide to bury her body themselves. Good news ...( read more  read more... )is she's not dead. Bad news is she wakes up just in time to interrupt a Satanic cult performing a ritual sacrifice in the same place the guys were going to bury her. Our heroes end up on the run from the Satanists, the drug dealer they stole the stash from, and a gang of angry little people all while trying to pull off a heist of their own. It's one crazy night in one crazy town!

This is a funny and atmospheric dark comedy; it's NOT a horror remake of the classic "Race With the Devil" - it shares two plot incidents, but that is it.
This movie has the gritty indie feel, and since it's Canadian, I'm guessing that the "Trailer Park Boys" series was a big in...( read more)fluence for this movie as well as some characters and the set design aesthetic are similar.
This is a "drug adventure" movie as its creators describe it. And that's damn exact. This movie is funny (so rare) and light yet loaded and morose as well. Great indie flick.
NOTE for "Good Stoner Movies" list: This movie is not a strict marijuana movie; the characters are junkies without boundaries and they consume a variety of hard drugs, but they occasionally relax with a joint.

A cheap, American (or Canadian, I don't know) version of Trainspotting, basically. Trippy, fun and oh-so-stupid. Not a bad way to spend 90 minutes.

Bentley, Speedman play it loose, but madcap air feels calculated.

Typical and ridiculous with some bad acting.

Weirdsville is intoxicating fun. While it starts off awkwardly and hits a considerable number of false notes along the way, the numerous WTF touches in the screenplay only render the film more entertaining. Of course, the point here is not to stage a thoughful, let alone coherent...( read more) film-- far from that. Director Allan Moyle also shows remarkable flair for vibrant, colorful images, which helps making his junkies-gone-wild 90-minute chase infinitely more tolerable. The cast, particularly the excellent male leads, embraces the exquisite silliness of the story and deliver spiky performances. I can spit out a hundred reasons why someone wouldn't like Weirdsville-- but I can spit a thousand ones why I really did.

Totally hilarious heist gone wrong! Effete wannabe Satanists, bungling slacker junkies and testerone-fueled little people make this movie a scream :)

Just like the title, go into this movie expecting something different. I was surprised how well it was done and from not hearing about it it was really funny. In my taste anyway.

This movie was surprisingly very funny and very good. Being Canadian myself I know a lot of good movies aren't made here, but this is one. Very good choices on the actors and they just did a fantastic job with the script. I love this movie

a cracking soundtrack, some grreat tunes, and some nice performances from wes bentley and scott pearlman, keep this interesting, as two losers get in all kind of mischif on a very cold night, involving local drug pushers and cults, and a few dwarfs thrown in
