    Good werewolf drama.

A really solid first try at a werewolf film, though surprised it does not get the credit really in being the first Universal wolfman movie put out, that credit usually is perceived to be the Wolfman with the great Lon Chaney Jr.

This one has a similar plot that most horro...( read more)r fans will know, a scientist (Henry Hull) gets bitten by a werewolf while on expedition in Tibet, he then goes back to London where he finds out that the plant he brought back is the only antidote to his new condition of lycanthropy. He then goes on a killing spree as the a werewolf when he could not get enough blooms to keep his condition at bay and tries to stay away from his wife since the werewolf will try to kill what he loves the most. Of course the ending is no surprise either but it doesnt matter it just plays out great 6 years before the aforemention Wolfman hits the screen.

This movie works not only because of solid direction but the amazing cast. Henry Hull, a veteran stage actor, plays the title role as Dr Glendon. Warner Oland, Charlie Chan in a slew of films, plays Dr. Yogami who also is a werewolf and is the one who bit Dr. Glendon. Also you have Valerie Hobson, who earlier in 1935 played Dr. Frankenstein's wife in Bride of Frankenstein, playing a similar role as Glendon's wife. And last but not least you cant forget the comedy relief of Spring Byingon, who plays the scatter brain Miss. Coombs. Plus you have small roles by Ethel Griffies and Zeffie Tilbury as two old drunken crones who swear never to touch the bottle again after seeing the werewolf. Tilbury as Mrs. Moncaster had one of the better lines when asked by Hull what she would think if he said that a man could be turned into a wolf, she said that "well I would say I was little miss red riding hood".

Again this was a solid film for the time period, it mixes the great acting with solid direction and cinematography. Plus like a lot of the horror flims of this time mixed the horror elements with some comedy relief seemlessly. So give this overlooked movie a try if you are a fan of the old black and whites, I think you will enjoy it like I did.

the movie was well written and well acted, although admittedly there are huge sections which are just plain dull, and the werewolf here isn't particularly horrific. The only truly memorable sequence is the initial transformation. Already interesting interpretations are being made...( read more) of the Werewolf myth.

It was okay, just another early werewolf flick I hadn't seen, so I watched this when ti turned up on cable.

Best moment was when the werewolf dons a hat and cape to conceal his appearance as he leaves the house, funny stuff.

Worth a look as a historical piece.

For good luck i watched this one in italian (Il segreto del Tibet)! Dr. Yogami's secret it's the marifasa, he needs that for him! First Pierce's job to make up an actor as wolf man and it's really great .

What an underrated classic! Even before The Wolf Man, Werewolf Of London is probably one of the best werewolf films ever made. Some cheesy effects, but it was only 1935. Overall good acting with some fun humor mixed in. Lots of suspense and chills with many camera tricks.

this is not an impressive werewolf.

I wish I could watch every movie ever made but I sadly don't have the time. I'm not interested in this movie because I don't think I'll like it or don't know enough about it to think I might like it. I may still end up seeing it some day though.

beats "the wolf man", this one has got an more advanced emotional problem and the story feels more complete than that one.
And I just love the funny old ladies.
