Plot: A futuristic amusement park becomes a deathtrap when the androids and computer systems used in it begin to murderously run amok.
This has dated, but it is still a good film to watch now and again. Can never decide if Yul Bryner is being scary or camp.
Not so dear hollywood: We need more movies these days about cowboy robots going berserk and killing people.
A classic. The beginning kind of sux, but it gets better and better. It could have used a more solid ending, and some better character development (I'm not sure if you can/should cheer for the "hero").
Good 70's sci-fi by Crichton, introduced the novel concept of (gasp) computer viruses. Yul Brynner's relentless killer was an obvious predecessor of the Terminator.
Satisfactory robot thriller. I'm pleased to see Chrichton handling his own material for this one. It's a great example of science fiction story telling.
Revolutionary theme park goes berzerk and starts killing the guests! What is this, Jurassic Park? Well, what do you expect when Michael Critchton is the writer? I loved that the first sign of malfunction is when the guys "whore" wouldn't put out...
A good story, but there were a lot of flaws. That made it kind of funny and unrealistic, but it was still okay.
It was fairly good but also seemed more like a cheapened/shorter version of THX. There really are a lot of similarities between the two visually. It really should have been longer, so much was left unexplained. As for Yul Brynner (lol almost like having Putin come after ya), I have to agree with some of the other people, he was a great crazy robot.
Sure it's older and plenty cheesy-- but nobody does pure concentrated evil (tm) like Yul Brynner as a whacked-out robot gunslinger.
loved this when i first saw it,but it is very dated now.looking forward to the remake which is due 2009.
I would love to see a remake of this. But I can't imagine who could top Yul Brynner's awesomely creepy Gunslinger.
This is a classic/ western/ adventure/ sci-fi/ and horror all in one.
Plus Yul Brynner as the Gunslinger!
A cross between Terminator and Jurassic Park in a way. Although the ending disappointed a little it was a great idea and kept me entertained all the way through.
Wish they had theme parks like this for real - apart from the evil robots :P
A clever idea that was well directed and that is prob 1 of the reasons that the film still holds up pretty well 2day
I really liked the build up of this movie. Everything up to the disaster part was awesome- great ideas (micheal crichton style) and fun. Once the machines went bad though, all things logical went out the window and nothing made sense anymore, nor was it that exciting or fun. It was just a guy getting chased and he wins in the end. Might have been a better novel instead.
Finally saw this one! Long before Robocop and Terminator, this movie delivers! Yul Brynner is great!
I need me one of them unstoppable killbots. One of them strumpetbots would be appreciated as well. More bots in general really.
It has flaws but the story and acting make up for it. Somewhat cheesy in the early 70's tradition but has this flavor that's very appealing. Yul Brynner scared the crap out of me when I first saw this as a child.
They gave robots real bullets. It was to be expected at least one would eventually revolt. I mean, come on. You don't give The Ramsey family another kid, and you certainly don't give robots real bullets. Yul Brynner's wooden acting and face actually make this character seem...realistically robotic.
GREAT EFFECTS FOR ITS TIME
STILL BEATS TERMINATOR HANDS DOWN TODAY,I COULD WATCH THIS MOVIE LOTS OF TIMES
A great Sci-Fi film. Yul Brynner was a masterstroke of casting as the deranged gunslinger and was backed up well by Brolin and Benjamin as the unsuspecting holidaymakers.
This board looks lonely. Be the first to talk about "Westworld" !
