Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"What you're actually hearing is the sound of a really old coot preaching a very practised sermon."
‑ Rick Groen, Globe and Mail
"The geeky sidekicks in Whatever It Takes are no better or worse than those in a dozen other teen movies of recent vintage, but they get the job done."
‑ Robert Horton, Film.com
"This is simply an assembly of cinematic cliches."
‑ Ellen MacKay, Common Sense Media
"Whatever It Takes is certainly nothing new or ground-breaking, but for what it is, it's entertaining and slightly above-average."
‑ David Nusair, Reel Film Reviews
"Worthy sentiments all, but not exactly fresh insights."
‑ Maitland McDonagh, TV Guide's Movie Guide
"The producers ... settle for the most obvious load of formula stuff in a numbingly cliched teen comedy pivoting on a lot of plastic angst over who'll take whom to the prom."
‑ Jay Carr, Boston Globe
"If you saw a single John Hughes movie from the 1980s, you've already seen this territory covered with more style and insight."
‑ Eleanor Ringel Gillespie, Atlanta Journal-Constitution
"Please, oh please, make these teen-targeted romantic comedies go away."
‑ Michael Dequina, TheMovieReport.com
"This is about as lame as teen comedy/romance films come."
‑ Chris Gore, Film Threat
"An occasionally amusing but otherwise unimaginative teen-based comedy."
‑ Jim Judy, Screen It!
"What was that movie that finds humor in someone barfing on someone else? Give me a minute, it's on the tip of my tongue! Whatever It Takes."
‑ Mark Caro, Chicago Tribune
"Still another movie arguing that the American teenager's IQ level hovers in the low 90s."
‑ Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
"Whatever It Takes is one of the worst and most inept teen movies I've seen since last year's Jawbreaker."
‑ Jeffrey M. Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
"It never has enough confidence to let itself go and shock or surprise the audience."
‑ Mike Kerrigan, Boxoffice Magazine
"What the film takes for granted is that there is a young horde waiting to be sold the old tripe again, a group very specifically targeted (from about age 15.2 to 19.4) as laugh patsies."
‑ David Elliott, San Diego Union-Tribune
