Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"Getting all the film references means you have to be a bit of a film buff yourself, but it's not essential to the enjoyment of this lighthearted satire."
‑ Peter Howell, Toronto Star
"Brendan and Trudy and company deliver a grand good time."
‑ David Germain, Associated Press
"The whole thing plays out a bit like an episode of Dream On, where film references are used in lieu of original thoughts or dialogue. The impact is, of course, directly correlated to whether or not you get what films are being referenced."
‑ Jason Gorber, Film Scouts
"The type of film that begs to be called 'charming' and by doing so instead ends up grating."
‑ Marc Savlov, Austin Chronicle
"Brimming with sweet Irish charm."
‑ George Perry, BBC
"Doyle should have spent more time on the story and less time in the video store searching for inspiration."
‑ Jason Anderson, Globe and Mail
"One of the smarter, more likable attempts at neo-screwball comedy to hit the screen in a while."
‑ Misha Berson, Seattle Times
"Not as formulaic as American-made romantic comedies, rent this one and pour yourself a Guinness."
‑ John Venable, Supercala.com
"Cloying and tiresome."
‑ Kim Morgan, Oregonian
"Maybe the film is only cotton candy, but as empty calories go, it's satisfying enough."
‑ Robert W. Butler, Kansas City Star
"It feels churlish to complain about its borrowings from other films. But it feels insubstantial and redundant."
‑ Eric Harrison, Houston Chronicle
"Being 'on' all the time is no easy task for an actor. But [Montgomery] makes it look natural."
‑ Desson Thomson, Washington Post
"...it will be remembered by true movie lovers a little better than it saccharine-coated competitors."
‑ Paul Salfen, Supercala.com
"If When Brendan Met Trudy suffers from anything, it's too much charm."
‑ Laura Kelly, South Florida Sun-Sentinel
"This unusual romance works brilliantly thanks to a terrific turn from McDonald and a career-making one from Montgomery."
‑ Jo Berry, Empire Magazine
