A drama about a pregnant teen who is abandoned by her boyfriend and longs for the family she never had. Good cast of woman who take in a young Natalie Portman. The film = so-so.

Obviously a novel adaptation, this unnecessarily cuts between two stories, that of pregnant teenager Novalee Nation trying to survive after her pig of a boyfriend abandons her, and that following said pig. It also spans more than five years, but none of this feels like it needs to be this big a story, with huge jumps in plot, character development and time.

However, it does utterly convince that the number 5 spells doom, and is skilled at evoking emotions. Novalee is an extremely sweet heroine, and the film nicely balances the theme of the kindness of strangers with utterly horrific events.

This is almost like someone squished up a soap into a film. It's accompanied by cheesy melodrama music, and it just doesn't need to span such a long time. But it is certainly affecting and is very watchable.

A very inspiring, uplifting, feel-good movie. Natalie Portman plays Novalee who finds herself pregnant and alone, having been abandoned by the baby's father. With nowhere to go she sneaks into a store, living there until she befriends some locals ( including Stockard Channing, Ashley Judd and James Frain) who end up becoming like family.
From this point forward, we see Novalee grow from an insecure, drifting girl with no positive role models, into a young woman realizing her photography career ambition and value as a person.
    Great performances from all involved.

    wow!.

it has a really intersting story to it, very original. all about a pregnant 17 year old girl who has run away and has to live in a supermarket for a while, she goes through ups and downs and meets some lovely people who help her. just incredible.

i love this film, its such a touching and heartwarming story, its loving, sweet, dramatic, upsetting, disturbing in parts for me. but its great. its also got humour too in the right places to lighten the feel of it.

its got romance which is adorable and lovely.

the cast are great, all good names, natalie portman is really good in this to say it was one of her first roles, ashley judd is great too. that know what they're doing. they make it flow and give REAL dramatic and right performances. this to me is a real film. also forney. is so cute and lovely:)

its got it all, an incredible film.

it has to be seen, worth it

This was actually better than I thought it would be. The ended was pretty predictable though and Forney could have been better looking...

fun quirky dramedy(I think thats what they're calling them now drama/comedy). Portman is perfectly cast as Novalee nation the down on her luck girl thanks to the number 5, who gains her 15mins of fame by giving birth in a walmart. Its pretty much predictable, one of those films where everything works out and we all live happily ever after, its still fun though to watch their journey towards happiness. Ashley Judd just fantastic as Novalees new found confidant, broken housewife and mother of an endless amount of kids

The title says it all. "Where the Heart Is" is a charming portrayal of the importance of good friends and how love is the true driving force in life. Although the script is light, the plot is interesting and moves along. Portman is heart-warming in her role of Novalee and the supporting cast really rounds out the film.

I really enjoyed this movie. It is so sad at times and makes you think of how some people live. It also makes you realize what goes around comes around and you do get some good if your a good person. I thought it would be cool to live in a walmart lol. Come on walmart has everything you need.

the story is somewhat convulted but its the performances from natalie portman and ashley judd that kept my interest and the growth of their characters.

a mild recommendation especially if your looking for something different or if your a fan of the two actresses
