Plot: The life of Oscar Wilde, at least that part pertaining to his sex life, Lord Alfred Douglas and his ruinous trial for indecency.
Steven Fry is superb and is a perfect cast for the role of Oscar Wilde. The rest of the cast is also very good, particularly Jude Law but the plot loses its novelty after a while and it doesn't really develop into anything original.
This movie was based on Wilde's homosexuality more than his works and should not be recommended for the homophobic or sexually squeamish. That stated - the movie is a well-scripted, superbly-acted, funny and entertaining movie that gives a unique and somewhat doting perception of Wilde.
Great performances from Stephen Fry as the eccentric playwright and Jude Law as his temperamental love. Does justice to the famous figure with good references to his work. Warning though, don't watch if your sensitive/insecure about sexuality.
The film concentrates on only a portion of Wilde's life, but it's well executed. Fry was an excellent choice for this film.
My favourite gay-related film. A poignant portrayal of a life all should know about. Also within my top 10 favourite movies.
