this movie is a very cool version of Shakespeare's classic. combining the well known charcters and story line with a modern setting Baz Lurhmann has created a masterpiece not to be missed
the classic story was brought up in a modern atmosphere. still touching. beautiful film xD. and leonardo di caprio is really gorgeous, breathtaking beauty.
well can't complain since it is based on shakespeare, but some modifications would have been better. like the old english thing, it would have been better if they spoke like plain english. i would have understood it more, and therefore like the movie more.the part where they simultaneously died was a bit lame and like shit why did she have to stare at him while he drinks that shit, but oh well..pretty good movie anyway
"for there was no story more woe than juliet and her romeo"...this is for me the most wonderful n really poignant romance ive ever seen n felt. shakespeare is definitely a livng legend n a master of this art, which is literature. splendid tragedy!!!
Luhrmann brazenly throws all caution to the wind and delivers a daring, if sometimes flawed, modern adaptation of Shakespeare's tragic star-crossed lovers.
Not my kind of movie, but not only did i appreciate it as i appreciate shakesphere in general, but i actually really enjoyed it aswell. I great adaptation, a great modern slant on a lierary classic and well worth watching.
i didnt like how it was actually in shakespeares words, i think that it would have been easier to understand if it was in normal language. i didnt exactly get why the 2 families were such enemies and had such hate for each other. i didnt expect for there to be so much action!!!! leonardo of course did a great job. claire danes was a good choice for juliet. when i was watching interview i thought that it was cute how leo said that in 10 years he still wanted to be known for his movie choices. which he surely is
Saw it 2 times in the theater... 10 times at the dollar show. DiCaprio & Danes are 2 of my all-time faves, was nice to see them on-screen together. I story moves well & it's easy to keep up--even if you aren't brushed up on your Shakespeare. TONS of symbolism. Great use of color. The soundtrack is a little pounding at times, but appropriate nonetheless. I love it, but I think I like Strictly Ballroom better.
My fave movie. Saw it the day I turned 13, and it changed my opinion on cinema. Know it's a weird choice but it will always be my fave, even if it's not the best cinema wise
Baz Lurhman takes my favorite Shakespeare play and transforms it into this beautiful, vibrant masterpiece. The whole film is heartbreaking and will always have the number 1 spot in my heart from the actors all the way down to the soundtrack!
was this one soposed to be like modern or something cuz it wasnt set in the time of men waering tights or women in coresets yet thay still had that languege it kinda confused me...but i still liked it
One of the most funniest movies I've ever seen. If you're a teenager you'll love this film, but if you're not anymore you'll roll your eyes and think 'whatever'.
Witty and dynamic,a really alternative and refreshing look to the classic myth,Luhrmann provides a feast of love and affection,a fair/carefree spectacle when you won't notice.
obsession. revenge. pain. these three themes command this classic tragedy transported into the modern-day. we all know the story, but you've never seen it like this. leonardo dicaprio as romeo forces you to feel what he feels, and benvolio and mercutio nearly pop off the screen. shakespeare himself would be proud of this production, each element of the movie is welded expertly into place.
At first one may be quite disappointed by the excessive and ridiculous aspect of the characters. This emphatic dimension contrasts even more sharply with Shakespeare's text. But after a while, one may get used to it and understand this choice. I especially liked the Latino background. It is quite touching and well done. challenging idea to mix old English with guns and cars...
A great love story. A great adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy. I like how they had guns instead of swords. It made the feel of it very modern. And I actually like how they changed it up at the end. I'm not going to give it away, but I will say that you will not expect it for the life of you. It will make you gasp.
