Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
The actors, especially Grace, fight hard against a schizoid script (the kids are rubes one sec, hipsters the next) and cotton-candy direction from Robert Luketic.
-
David Edelstein, Slate
It must be admitted that the final 10 minutes of Win A Date With Tad Hamilton! are likable: one cliche following another, but with charming restraint. Or it might just have been that the movie's simple-mindedness wore me down.
-
Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com
Suffers from a lack of conviction.
-
Mark Jenkins, Washington Post
It's hard to care whether it's Tad or Pete who wins Rosalee's heart, and Luketic's direction is merely functional. Yet the film is not a chore, mostly because its leading lady makes the not-quite-plausible Rosalee consistently appealing company.
-
Desson Thomson, Washington Post
There is no reason on God's good Earth to see this movie.
-
Susan Walker, Toronto Star
Win A Date With Tad Hamilton might be as nauseating as its assumptions of wholesomeness, but for some smart dialogue and acting.
-
Nell Minow, Common Sense Media
Fluffy, but well-made and irresistibly cute.
-
Kam Williams, Bean Soup Times
Puppy love at its most bearable!
-
Nick Schager, Lessons of Darkness
Fails to produce one single convincingly realistic moment.
-
Mark Collette, Tyler Morning Telegraph (Texas)
We might have to use our seat cushions to float on all this goo.
-
Nick Davis, Nick's Flick Picks
Grace isn't a confident or resourceful enough actor to withstand the film's lopsided focus on Tad, or Duhamel's unexpectedly warm and cheerful presence.
-
Judith Egerton, Courier-Journal (Louisville, KY)
Few people younger than 11 or over 19 will find much to swoon about in this bland picture.
-
Brian Webster, Apollo Guide
The extras on the disc are modest, although the collection of deleted scenes (sadly without any explanatory commentary) is relatively extensive.
-
Forrest Hartman, Reno Gazette-Journal
As patently sweet as the trailers and title lead you to believe, and with a cast like this, the audience is the real winner.

Cute feel-good movie which I always enjoy. Okay, it's pretty silly, but I can't help but like it.

Really enjoyed this film. Topher Grace is adorable! The ending made me have a smile on my face. A must see chick flick!

This movie was cute, but that's about it. I didn't laugh or even giggle very much. I think the ending may have bumped it up half a star, I didn't see that exact ending coming and thought it was clever. The deleted scenes were funnier than the movie. I mean Paris Hilton… More

I mean Paris Hilton parachuting into Tad's pool...why wasn't that in the movie?

My dad always says, "There is no such thing as chick flicks. There are bad films, and there are good films." I have grown up my whole life with this philosophy so believe me when I tell you that I have no bias against chick flicks. This, however, does not fall into the 'good movie' category. Kate Bosworth might be lovely (she is by the way) and Josh Duhamel might have made a lot of money (he did by the way) but the film itself consists of a boring storyline, average performances and an ending which I had time to make an entire roast lamb dinner for once I saw it coming. Topher Grace tries with all his might to hold the film together with the most genuine performance and natural comedic talent, but it's more than anyone would have been able to handle. Kudos for trying Topher. Don't worry, Spiderman 3 makes you pretty rich, pretty soon.
Defining Scene:
The extremely cheesy confrontation scene with Topher and Josh. Topher obviously did what he could with the script available but the forces of darkness were too strong.

This jealously comedy film makes me laugh, even the Hollywood star's handlers (Nathan Lane and Sean Hayes) are much funniest.

Maybe this was a good movie and I just wasn't in the mood to put up with a bland story executed lazily by Robert Luketic (too much expectations after Legally Blond, maybe), lack of acting ability (except Topher Grace), stupid situations put up together to fill up space (just watch the father in the story - acts as a moron!) and very annoying blond moments of the main character with a philosophy which will never move you a meter away from the checkout (in real life). I think it is our mistake that, as a society, we encourage movie makers to feed crap like this to young ladies and after that complain that those same ladies will finish on some antidepressants in 20 years because their "dreams" were not like in the movie... I watched the movie to the end - my hope that a part worth something will happen disappeared with the last scene!

Topher Grace is meant for show business. I can't believe he had to be coaxed into becoming an actor. That being said, he totally saved this movie and made it a little more than a chick flick. It could be the fact that I was a grocery store manager for awhile and I can relate, I truly liked this film for the story and dialogue, but nothing else. Kate Bosworth is definitely easy on the eyes. This film was the first thing I watched on my high definition tv. It was absolutely amazing. BUY AN HD TV!!!

It is a good romantic comedy. Topher Grace is really funny. Better than I expected.
-
I love the Topher Grace character and everything he says and does. But this film is pure adolescent wish fulfilment. Never meet your heroes, or Hollywood stars.
-
All the "comedy" falls flat. The film tries to be better than a romantic/comedy but in the end it's just the same garbage.
-
Is an alright movie is your into the whole romance thing!
-
This was pretty cheesy, but not the worst I've seen.
