Not the greatest martial arts flick in the world. But I love Michelle Yeoh, Yuen Woo-Ping shows why he is one of the best and most creative action choreographers ever.
This should have been a lot better, Yuen Woo Ping's comedy timing certain lacks more balance. This type of material is more fit for someone like Lau Kar Leung, or even Stephen Chow in his prime. Mrs Yeoh is fappable as usual, and Donnie Yen plays a rather fit character instead of his tiredsome "stone cool guy" persona. But the fights feel rushed and badly edited.
Wing Chun surprises with its fast pace and excellent physical comedy. Fight scenes are also convincing. The entire setting is not very original, but amusing and that is what really counts. The bad guys are rather faceless, but not a big disappointment. The film isn't really a drama or action film, but rather a fast-paced slapstick. A fun experience and an admirable Kung Fu flick.
As it's from director Yuen Woo-Ping, it was always going to be better than your average kung fu movie. The fight scenes are brilliant and don't come much better, anywhere.
While the Wing Chun form isn't shown as much as you would think, it does show us it's main principles, especially towards the end scenes. Which, if you know what your looking at, is great to watch.
This was also the second to last (Drunken Master 2 being the last) of the great action kung fu period romp movies made in Hong Kong. After this, kung fu movies were all staged with modern settings. ^_^
The Hong Kong equivalent of a carry on film. it had some funny moments. Too many of the fight scenes were obviously sped up which distracts from the actual fighting
If you can get this movie do so it's the best damn Kung Fu movie ever. Comedy, ass kicking and a dude named flying monkey.... Yes go check amazon you know you'll love it
Waste of TIME!! Very Weak movie, DO NOT WATCH, if you do end up watching it, side effects may include: Suicide, murder ramapages, road ramapage, any kinds of ways of harming yourself, and many others...
One of my favourite Hong Kong martial arts flicks ever, 'Wing Chun' is full of action and comedy, while also giving the women the leading roles. Best bit - the bed of squashed bananas! Everytime I think of this movie I want some tofu! (The character Yip Wing Chun runs a tofu shop).
