Plot: Without a Clue is an underrated comedy featuring stellar teamwork by two great actors, Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley. Watson wants the world to believe the fictional private eye actually exists, posing a problem when a steady stream of troubled souls come seeking Holmes's help. The doctor's prescription: hire a two-bit, drunken, skirt-chasing actor (Caine) to portray the Great Detective, an arrangement that causes Watson consternation whenever "Holmes" tries to improvise his way through a case. Wonderful comic timing and tension make Without a Clue a delight; Caine, particularly, gets a lot of mileage out of the faux Holmes's grand efforts to appear a genius. Henry Mancini's score adds a touch of old Hollywood gloss, and Thom Eberhardt (Night of the Comet) directs. --Tom Keogh

Twists and turns like you wouldn't expect.
Dry British humour with two of the kingdoms best loved film and theatrical actors.

An odd spy story, with super Kingsley (Watson) and Caine (Holmes/Kinkaid). The story unveils the "real" story of Sherlock Holmes. You won't miss it.

This was just great! Clever and funny throughout. Have always been a fan of Ben Kingsley, Michael Caine, and Sherlock Holmes, so this was right up my alley. A good mystery involved here, but it's the performances by Caine and Kingsley that make this worth the watch. Caine especially is hilarious as the bumbling, lecherous, inebriated Holmes. The scene at the keyhole is still making me laugh, the look on Caine's face when that girl removes her stocking, oh man, that's good stuff. A great, satisfying comedy.

Not the funniest comedy out there, but it was OK. The fact that Holmes was only a drunken actor while Watson was the real genius was very clever and funny! Besides, two of my favorite actors were in this movie.
On the whole, I liked it. :)

Don't recall too much about it, other than this Kingsley guy taking over the Michael Caine film I'd wanted to watch. Not rocket science, but decent.

What makes Michael Caine such a great actor is that he is great at both comedy and drama. This underrated comedy is terrific with two fantastic lead actors in Ben Kingsley and Caine who make a great duo as the clown and the straight man. Just wonderful - full of laughs, action and a storyline full of twists. What more could you possibly ask for ?

Witty parody of the Sherlock Holmes stories in which the true genius is Ben Kingsley's Dr. Watson, Holmes being a womanising drunken actor hired to play the part. Michael Caine's clearly loving every minute of it, and in combination with Kingsley's ever more disdainful and exasperated Watson, they make a great comic partnership.

Check it out. It's a quaint little comedy with a fun angle - Sherlock Holmes is a dolt and Watson is the true genius. Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine! Nice! I'd give it an extra star if it was available in widescreen... :(

Though slightly boring at times, this movie teams up Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine, making it an enjoyable experience.
Caine is Sherlock Holmes, *but* not the Sherlock Holmes we all know... He is an actor, who doesn't regocnize a clue, even if it hit him straight in the face. Watson, however, is a reporter, who hired him to act Sherlock Holmes, a made up character he used in an article of his. Truly, Watson is the real genius, but when he meets Doctor Moriarty and Sherlock is left to deal with the mystery of a lost man, Sherlock must use all his talent (well, the things he learned from Watson) to catch Moriarty and solve the case.

One of the most unique takes on the Sherlock Holmes mythology, "Without a Clue" reverses the roles of brilliant detective and bumbling sidekick.

Innovative theory: Sherlock Holmes does not exists, is only a Watson's invention... pleasant film with two great british actors.

Looks like one of those films that could be either very funny or just awful. Since it's a little known Caine film I'd assumed it was the latter, however I hear it's actually pretty good, though it probably can't hold a candle to Seller's as Inspector Clouseau: the greatest comedy detective ever.
