ONCE AND FOR ALL THIS MOVIE IS NOT A TRUE STORY! While it is influenced by similar events (the trial for one of its influences was still on during filming so the release date had to be pushed back)this movie in and of its self is fictional.
It's like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, while the killer in that movie is based off a real killer, the events are entirely fictional. This movie is reminiscent of real murders/murderes but is a fictional story ONLY influenced by reality.
and the person who posted the website below, well i looked at that url and it doesnt exsist!
And seriosuly if you were Ben after going thorugh something like that, would you want to live in a less populated place eg. South Australia, or a big city where Mick is a lot less likely to pop up eg. Sydney?
also like someone below said they didnt really tie up some of the storyline, like how the guys truck was at the emu creek station!
my recommendation don;t watch this movie, its boring, not that gopod and not worth your time
if you have any doubts on whether this story is true or false you should go to this website_-_-_

it was a brilliant movie, i don't care if it was real or not because a)i watched it late at night on my own in my room b)torture scares me much more than a good story line.
great movie i hope they make more like this, i tuned in luckily when the one of the women was tied up in a room and had to save her friend from being shot with crossbows, yeah i agree how do they know the women's point of view but you might say hannibal lecter is scary but that isnt real (i think)
The ending is Absolutely shit because the main bad guy does not die
and it was obvious from the the start that the hillbilly was going to end up trying to kill them otherwise how would it of been a horror film
I really didn't get this film. How do they know what happened to the two girls if they had never been found? fair enough, the guy would have told most of the story...but he wasn't with the girls when they were being tortured and killed, so ? I suppose it was quite thrillery, but i expected it to be SO much better. Every scene which started, never really ended with a proper answer, if that makes sense. It sort of just cut off. Especially the bit where she was looking through the camera's and found theirs, and at the end of it, it stopped on one of his truck's. But where was he supposed to be? was he one of the people in the station? I was really confused. The best bit was probably when she got in the car and u heard his really creepy laugh, and then he stabbed her. That was freaky. And is it just me, or was there very very very little talking in this film? That confused me aswell. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Was very boring.
To the 3rd comment.
Uhm, they guessed on what happened to the girls.
It is based on a true story.
And that guy, is still alive,
so obviously, he told the story.
And people are just making guesses on the girls.
=/
omg! this was one of the best movies i have seen for like... i don't no.. a while! I love this movie! It was so good and i watched it in my friends basement! it was such a thrill!
me and my best mate watched this while lyin in her room. me not looking at some bits and her watching every single thing!! this film is very good and the fact that it is true scares me lol!! just gutted my mate has lost it coz i love it sooooo much!!! A*****
like the person who wrote before me, they are right how did they know what happened to each of those girls, so it can not be based on a true story if they only thing they got right is it happened near wolf creek, It was a good movie. even some parts scared me, like when he cut the girls fingers off and then stabed her so she would not be able to move, that freaked me out, but how do they know that is something that happened. I have seen movies more better then this and things that are actualy facts not just guessing. MAGINE BASED ON A TRUE STORY THEY MIGHT HAVR ONE OR 2 THINGS RIGHT, THANK GOD I NEVER WASTED MY MONEY IT WAS ON TV
This movie I wanted to see for awhile. Once I saw it I was quite pleased. I researched the events it's based on and they did a very good job mixing two serial killing cases into one movie. I'm very impressed in Greg McLean and hope to see more movies directed by him. The cast did a wonderful job. John Jarret did a great job as Ivan Milat and Nathan Phillips did a very impressive job on Paul Onions. I'm glad to say this wasn't a waste of my time and I recomend it to people who love thrillers.
How do they know what happened to the 2 girls if they hvnt found the bodies and the guy hasnt admitted how he killed them tell me tht most of this movies a load of bullshit
i loved this movie so much!!! it showed that a real horror film doesn't need much of a body count. it was brilliant. and as someone said below about "the fog", it did truly suck...
While it claims to be based on a real story, you find that the only similarities between this film and the real life murder was that it took place near 'Wolf Creek'
Since this film was not based on facts, I found a lot of loose ends left unexplained at the film. I was very disappointed at the ending as well… I feel the creator focused on the wrong things and people.
This shit was fucking gay and I would rather sit and watch My Fair Lady 5 times than watch this movie! This movie is whore shit and should not be coming in your home. It really sucked that bad. Don't see it. It also took forever to get to the plot like someone else wrote, which is true fact. And this movie wasn't good at all. DON'T SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've been warned.
The fact that it took "forever to get to the plot" is one of the things that made it so brilliant. There's plenty of other crap horror films out there that skip straight past the character development if that's what you want. Being an Australian I loved this movie. The comment on how the isolation in outback towns does things to people and it's not just all fuzzy kangaroos and koalas was great. The best thing is that he built up to the fkked up sexual stuff with increasingly disturbing but completely real behaviour from other people. I've spent a bit of time in country towns, and people ARE like that. And the killer was the most real portrayal of a "real Aussie bushman" I've seen on screen (not saying theyre all psychos or anything, but the mannerisms, the cussing, the language all very accurate). The thing that does piss me off is the way the film is marketed. In my opinion it doesnt deserve the mediocre standard horror treatment it gets. I mean "The thrill is in the hunt"?. WTF?
Bout time somebody over here made something that us aussies can be proud to call our own!
Ok, ill admit that John Jarrat played an excellent villain, but it was hyped up way too much. Everyone was saying how gory and horrible it was, but it was pretty tame compared to what ive seen.
You people don't know a good film when see one, just stick to your "The Fog" remake.
yeah, it was pretty shit,
WAAAY to dragged out in the begining,
and in the end it was just boring and shit.
watching a thriller than this one. It really dragged. And it took forever to get to the plot, which by then you are so bored that you just don't care. This movie was lacking suspense and thrill. I give this two thumbs way down!
Terrible. So happy I wasted my money seeing it in the theaters. For such hype, it really let me down.
