dark comedy starring Patrick Fugit, Shannyn Sossamon and Shea Whigham. based on the short story Kneller's Happy Campers by Etgar Keret. directed by Goran Dukic.

boy kills himself. boy finds himself in strange afterlife where no one smiles and the scenery looks much like where I come from. boy searches for love. boy finds love. boy loses love. boy finds love again. the end.

interesting idea with decent writing and an okay cast.

A very strange comic fantasy. Brilliant story telling, filled with more allusions and inside jokes than you can possibly grasp in a single viewing. I am not familiar with the star, Patrick Fugit, but he is very talented. I'll be looking for more of his work. The performances by S...( read more)hannon Sossamon, Shea Whigham and Tom Waits are also brilliant.

strange concept, but i like it.

I watched this while I was ill and still found it interesting enough to give a good rating. Quirky love story set in the after-life (for suicides). Pretty decent acting and rather funny in an understated kind of way.

    Weird but watchable.

I really loved it. Seemed very original. I liked the basic idea of it, and it put me in a good mood.

Wristcutters was a dark, bleak movie of death and afterlife. Got this movie recommendation from a very dear friend, and it fell flat...( read more) for me, I did not find it funny or dramatic. There were scenes that was pointless and without glance. The characters never became interesting. It was not bad, and not good, just between. I waited for the movie to become interesting but it never happen. If you like dark and bleak comedies, this is something for you. Not my type of movie.

Odd story that reminds me, in some ways, of Lost In Translation. Lost souls, forced together by circumstance, each trying to find their way through the afterlife. Unfortunately, the movie is a bit too unconventional for its own good. Slow moving, rather dull at times and has a ra...( read more)ther expected ending.

I just love this movie. another good indie film.

"It only happens if it doesn't matter"

One of the best films I've watched recently. Very clever and lovely, this dark comedy is one of the most original films I've ever watched.

Some indie movies try so hard to be indie without any of the real charm or intersesting characters or even plot for that matter. Here is one of those situations in case, and I was it's victim for almost two hours. Terrible.

Well done take on where you go if you commit suicide. Funny and unique! A good summer flick.
  • September 10, 2009
Eh, it was ok but not the greatest.
  • September 9, 2009
I need to see this again. It is not one of my absolute favorites, but I certainly appreciated how quirky and off the map it was.
  • September 2, 2009
Not a bad little film, kinda predictable, but harmless. I'd say see it if you get a chance.

critics and reviews were nice but this film bores me. I was convincing myself to like it but i failed

Pleasant enough, but I cannot get into these depressed-dude-falls-in-love stories (e.g., Garden State). 90% of the screen time feels wallowing and sedated, even apathetic, which is such a turn-off even for a 90-minute plotline pointing toward romance.

Wristcutters is a cute, unconventional exploration of suicide and ennui. The notion that things are actually MORE boring after killing yourself than they are before is a fantastic conceit, and one that would dissuade me from ever wanting to take my own life. It's slight, and not ...( read more)terribly funny for a movie that bills itself as a comedy, but it's sweet and the ending leaves you feeling oddly uplifted. Which is strange, you know, for a movie about suicide.

Not revelatory or anything, but won't leave you feeling insulted or patronized, which seems to be getting harder to find in a movie these days...

    una commedia davvero carina.

I loved this film! Don't shy away due to its questionable title! This is a true hidden gem and something every indie fan should check out. I loved the original plot and great characters in this! The cameos were well done..especially Will Arnett's role in this! The only thing I di...( read more)dn't like were the uneeded subplots and subjects randomly thrown in throughout the story, but other than those this film is amazing!

    is this about emo's?
  • July 2, 2009
An original dark romantic comedy. Everything from the writing to the cinematography to the direction to the acting was amazing. It was nice to find something different that wasn't so rediculous that you couldn't understand it. Recommended.

A unique story, presenting the most conventional love story in a completely unconventional situation.

This was a fun and quirky little film about an afterlife populated with suicides, who are basically forced to live in a world that's just slightly worse than the one that they left.

The lead meets and slowly falls for a character played by Shannyn Sossamon (who can blame him?), ...( read more)only to find her on a mission to get sent back to earth, because she thinks she arrived in this world on a technicality.

It's fun, with some nice comedic beats here and there, plus it has Tom Waits in a small role, so what's not to love?

    Give it a rental.

A little long, but original and interesting.

Tom Waits! And Patrick Fugit! And Some Motha-Fugging Gogol Bordello!
  • June 9, 2009
A little predictable but it was funny. Although considering how dark it is, it's really not for everyone.
  • June 7, 2009
The movie it's about there three people meet and become friends and start a journey where each one of them have something they wanna look for and they learn more that they could ever imagine. It would be a very comun story if they weren't suicidals in a place only for people who ...( read more)commited suicide. It's not dramatic at all and actually it's a very positive story where you always can have a second chance. It's a movie I've wanted to see in a very long time because I tought it was really original and yes, I wasn't wrong plus the movie is really well done and the cast is great. I can put this movie in a category where you watch it, feel their pain, start loving the characters and when it's ends you have a big smile on your face.

really extremely freakin indie, but take all that away and its good
  • May 31, 2009
Loved this film. One of the most original stories I've seen in a while. The acting isn't so great but it doesn't take away from how good the story is.
  • May 23, 2009
A love story without all the cheese. Clever and somehow more real than reality itself, it just works. Catchy soundtrack, too. A reminder to appreciate the small things in life.
  • May 21, 2009
It's not bad, but I think that it needed to be less of a comedy and more of a character study because there wasn't enough substance to it all.
  • May 13, 2009
Bored the hell out of me, I cut it off after about 1 hour into the movie.
  • May 12, 2009
Strange but wonderful 'emo' film about a boy that goes to purgatory for suicides. It is dark but comical and imaginative. It's a drama/comedy/romance. <3
  • May 11, 2009
this is my fave movie ever
  • May 8, 2009
    Sounds very interesting
  • May 3, 2009
Kooky, dark and bizzare story. I liked it a lot. Tom Waits is a legend. With music from Gogol Bordello (and Tom)
  • April 15, 2009
an interesting view about the after life
  • April 5, 2009
cool sound track. tom waits was awesome, of course. liked the main idea of the movie (no spoilers) the ending was nice. i felt good after watching this movie.
  • April 3, 2009
This offbeat love story was quirky and enjoyable albeit a touch morbid. Also, the Gogol Bordello soundtrack was way rad!
