Wuthering Heights is a beautiful story about Heathcliff who falls for his foster sister Cathy. They have a strange love for each other that tears them apart.

I haven't read the book (don't call me uncultured), so I can't really comment on movie - book adaptation. But analysing the movie alone, I'll say they had a great editor on board, as well as a decent cast.Don't expect a soppy, happy - chappy ending though. Save for a rainy day.

as i actually read the book a couple of years back this served as a good reminder and it does actually go along with the story of the book. most other flims that first came from books (dracula & frankenstein being prime examples) seem to shoot off in all sorts of other directions...( read more) but this kept true to emily brontes version of events. the one annoying factor for me is i can't stand ralph fiennes. i must admit this is his best performance in anything i've seen him in but it's still him in it which does my head in for some reason. he's just annoying! no one had an outstanding performance. yeh, the book is better. this didn't recreate the atmosphere strongly enough for me that the book did

This is an enjoyable, though not great, adaptation of Emily Brontė's classic novel of the same name. It is a beautiful looking, well made, well cast and acted film - but I could definitely find some faults in the script, which largely oversimplifies Brontė's incredibly complex na...( read more)rrative, which isn't helped by its being crammed into 105mn. While the novel isn't overly long, and it is possible to tell the story in this amount of time (all the other film adaptations of Wuthering Heights seem to run about the same length) - this script definitely does hack away at the novel a little bit. The film also is guilty of oversimplifying the love story between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw; although it is undoubtedly one of the the greatest romances ever told in British literature, it is also supposed to be one of the most tumultuous, and marked by a very rocky relationship between the two characters, who are both considerably flawed. However, the film does succeed because even though I recognized these shortcomings immediately, I was able to overlook them and allow myself to get wrapped up in the wonderful story once again. This is also helped by the great work of Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche, who are perfectly cast and both deliver memorable performances (although, given the material, I think it would be hard not to shine in either role). I haven't seen any of the other adaptations of this novel yet, but this one I enjoyed, and would definitely recommend to fans of the novel.

An adaptation of the only true-piece of art from the Bronte family, this film lags for those of us who have tried despeartely to admire the sisters for their art because of Kosminksy's bombastic style of not just filming but in editing as welll. None the less, the dialogue is inc...( read more)redibly well delivered for such a poorly aged novel and it definately does honour to a literary contribution that is bound to eventually become essential to the Western Canon once again.

Fiennes and Binoche are at their best, and those who criticize Binoche's effortless grace as being drawn back or wooden clearly have not reached far enough into the depths of Bronte - just read about one of their characters (especially Emily's) and then try saying this.

Oh, and the performances are pretty
