MCT:January 27, 2008This is one of Gere's best. A must see for all fans. Gere is superb with a great supporting cast. The story is set in WWI just before D-Day where Gere falls in love but can't commit for fear of not coming back. This one will tear at your heart strings. Watch on a rainy day and just let it take you back in time to feel what it must have been like with all the fears and uncertainties.

its not a bad movie but not a great movie either i think it did a good job in showing what it was like for them befire they did the normandy landings

Caught this film on TV one afternoon and ended up recording the end so I didn't miss it - so there must have been enough there to hold my attention. Perhaps it was the fact it was filmed in my home county of Lancashire! Anyway, I certainly enjoyed it a lot more than I expected - it was a refreshingly different look at the second world war and was quite moving in places. I liked the fact the end of the story was left fairly open - the film finishes when the soldiers are being moved out for the D-Day landings. This means there is still a note of hope, even though we know that the chances of survival are slim.

My mum showed me this film when i was 10 because:
a) she has a bit of a thing for richard gere
b)it was filmed locally and she's still angry her mum wouldn't let her be an extra in it.
All i can remember about it is bad sex scenes and Charlie from casualty. But Richard gere is quite nice in it tho. -

another of my favorites.. love lisa Eichorn.. the accent knocks me over... great cast and a very touching movie... i am glad i did not have to live through that war
