[talking to himself] "Hey Carl, do you wanna give all of your money away to a homeless guy? Yes, yes I do. How about letting him burn out your phone batteries so you can't call triple A when you run outta gas? You know what, that sounds like a FUCKING GREAT IDEA! Why don't you...( read more) take a late night stroll through the hills and be killed by the Manson family. Don't mind if I do "

Ok let's just establish that I love love love Jim Carrey, his crazy insane roles and the more serious ones, so it actually pains me to say this, seriously, it hurts, but, here it is.....I didn't really like it. I have never before said that about a Carrey movie (except The Number 23 which was questionable ha). A lot of reviews say 'Jim is back on form' and 'doing what he does best', but I can't agree I'm sorry. Firstly, to me he hadn't lost much to begin with :), but if he had, this wouldn't have resurrected it and secondly, it's not what he does best, there were just aspects of it thrown in now and then, but those moments were few and far between :(

It's not a disaster by any means, but it is forgettable. Normally Carrey's films have me laughing out loud almost the entire way through, he's just my kind of humour, but the funny moments in this were anything but constant, they fleeted by so fast that I was constantly praying for a funny moment and attempting to force myself to like it more than I did. Don't get me wrong it did have me laughing at certain parts, but, there were times where I was (can't believe it) a little bored. The romantic aspect of the film shines through the hit and miss comedy, as the relationship between Carl and Allison develops, it manages to be cute without being overly-sentimental.

It's shortcomings can't be blamed on the cast, as all performances are more than adequate. But it could have, should have been funnier. There were so many comedic possibilities for Carrey to do his thing, maybe too many, that I feel some scenes that were perhaps best left for the cutting room floor made it into the final cut, which became a mélange of random clips. At least Warner Bros. got plenty of advertising in geez.

I can't bear to give it less than 3 stars, so there it is. Oh Jimmy, how about getting back with Shadyac :)

Just turn your brain off and love it: it's great to see that Jim Carrey is still Jim Carrey! Physical comedy is back. The movie isn't great, but it will make you laugh, and true to form I guess I'm taking it's advice: don't be a no-man! A lot of fun, ridiculous scenes and just ch...( read more)arming enough that you look past the low-brow bent of the film, it's got some truly hilarious moments. Lots of fun to watch.

    "I am gone-o-reha. That didn't sound right.."

All of us are scared of living the same boring life with even more boring routines everyday. Could we change this if we said YES more often?

Jim Carrey is a loan officer who's divorced and tries to avoid his friends. Enjoying rental...( read more) DVD's sounds as a better idea than going out with his best friends. An old acquaintance gets him to go to a Yes seminar that will eventually change his life... Instead of saying no, Carl Allen (Carrey) has to say yes, or at least try to, to everything.

The comedy is a bit forced at the beginning but when Allen starts to get used to saying yes, the movie gets a lot funnier. There are some scenes that will surely give plenty of laughs but on the side there are also many uneven scenes. And now while I'm at it, the ending could've been better, instead of being "safe".

Jim Carrey does his patent face twisting, or what you may call it, but what saves this film from being totally average is the supporting cast. Bradley Cooper, playing Allen's best friend, has some very nice dialogue but the one that I loved is Zooey Deschanel's (what an awesome name that is!) character as Allen's love interest. Damn, I've seen her on some occasions ('Weeds' series, 'Winter Passing' and 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) and always enjoyed watching her work. Truly a nice actor and a beautiful face combined. Want to see more of her! Another actor worth mentioning is Rhys Darby as Allen's boss at the bank. Little did I know of him but he was genuinely funny and stole many scenes from Carrey. I want to attend Harry Potter parties like the ones he arranged!

If you liked 'Liar Liar' and other similar Carrey comedies, you might wanna check this one out. It doesn't stand as one of Carrey's best works but will surely give some very nice laughs. And Zooey Deschanel is surely a reason why you should watch this...

I laughed at some of the bits but honestly I can't say I'd laugh upon a second viewing. It was Carey's attempt to recapture his 90's glory but all it did was continually remind me he wasn't in his 30's anymore. I also didn't buy the transition from schlub who says no to action ma...( read more)n who says yes one bit.
