If you love comedies, but haven't seen Young Frankenstein, you're in for a delicious treat. After three decades, it still makes people laugh to death, and it's a must-see for every spoof lover in the world.

Actually, it's not a parody, but a homage by Mel Brooks to James Whale's ...( read more)classic, shot in black and white on the same location and with the same props.

The "hero" is Dr.Frederick Frankenstein(Gene Wilder), who, after a long period in which he hated it, decides to repeat his grandfather's experiment. The result is the Transylvanians want to kill him, despite the fact that the monster is the most harmless creature in the world.

This sort of sequel to the original Frankenstein is hilarious from start to finish, mostly because of two actors:Peter Boyle and Martin Feldman. The former is great as the mute creature(he'll compensate that by talking too much in Everybody Loves Raymond), particularly in the scene with Gene Hackman's Blind Man.But it's Feldman's Igor that makes this film unmissable. No wonder, given he's got the best lines("Wait Master. It might be dangerous...you go first").

With no doubt Mel Brooks' masterpiece.

The Scary Movie franchise wishes it was this good.

very funny and charming comedy that spoofs one of the great horror stories ever written. the cast was perfectly chosen and the unfolding of the end was well mapped out. another solid output from mel brooks.

Awesome spoof!! The fog, the lab, the cinematography all honor the classic. The sexual innuendo, name play, and Puttin' on the Ritz are hilarious.

I love this due to its subject matter, gothic horror and Frankenstein's Monster :) the fact that its a Brooks spoof makes it even better. Possibly the best spoof ever made YF is sheer genius in so many ways. The look of the film is actually very good and quite accurate to its ori...( read more)ginal source, the score is excellent, made in black and white gives the film a real sense of atmosphere and credibility and the cast really look the part as well as hit their marks everytime.
What can I say about the cast? amazingly good, Mars, Wilder, Leachman the fantastic Feldman and a great little cameo from Hackman all make this superb comedy.

For me the first 40min is the best, the intro of Wilder's 'Fronkensteen' LOL the intro of the castle and 'Eye-gor' and the recreation of the Frankenstein original movie with the monster being brought to life, after this the film does tend to get less funny and alittle boring, Boyle as the monster was atouch over played and Garr cant really act hehe I always hated the 'Ritz' dance number.
Aside from that its very well made, looks great (not cheap like other Brooks films) and you probably wont get another comedy much better, only thing missing from this and other Brooks films is Wilder's partner Pryor.

    'Damn your eyes!'

Some good jokes, Gene Wilder is amazing, as usual, but not the best Mel Brooks movie...
