    A really enjoyable thriller! Fincher's direction is a joy as he paces the story of the Zodiac investigation with great dignity and detail. Not for people who like their thrillers slap-dash and fast-paced, neither is this for people who are expecting a Se7en sequel.     How do you turn the serial-killer thriller on its head? Never catch the killer. Fincher's true-life tale is not about grabbing the bad guy; it's about the nature of obsession.

    Director David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club) crafts a different type of masterpiece that he is not accustom to. His previous successes in fiction pales in comparison to his achievement in this narrative. It's extremely difficult to make a film based on actual events and yet maintain its authenticity. One such film that couldn't achieve this level of accuracy was Brian De Palma's inaccurate telling of The Black Dahlia.

    The three leads did a great job, but the one that stands out here is Jake Gyllenhaal as the cartoonist whose life deteriorates as his continued Zodiac obsession intensifies.

    This is one of those films that invoked me to do some research on the Zodiac killer. Prior to this film, I had virtually no knowledge of this case. After viewing many websites, I can see that this film was one of the most accurate portrayals of real life events in recent cinema history. It's an absolute shame that this case still has not been solved despite the mounting evidence against the lone suspect. I hope DNA testing in the future will in fact incriminate him.

    On the down side, this film runs more as an informative History Channel special. I say this only because at a run time of 2hrs. 40mins, it out stays it's welcome. It wasn't entertaining enough to warrant an extended viewing, and the chance of re-watching the film is slim.

    From a filmmakers standpoint, this is an excellent piece of work... and it's highly commendable. But there's an entertainment factor that's missing that prevents me from loving this film.

    I know this is becoming quite redundant now, but this is definitely the best film so far this year. The movies I've been seeing just keep getting better and better and Zodiac just wiped out all of the competition. It's by far the best film so far this year.

    I was complet...( read more)ely pissed at the end of this movie for one major reason... you never find out The Zodiac's true identity. After 2 hours and 38 minutes of very deep suspense and mystery, the conclusion doesn't offer an answer. I know there is no logical way for the film to do this since there was no one officially tagged to the Zodiac murders in reality, but in the film world who knows what could be done. Nevertheless, David Fincher tackled this topic with all of the impulse and passion he used in previous achievements like Fight Club and Se7en.

    I consider Fincher to be a master of suspense and one of the greatest auteurs of modern-day cinema. His take on the string of Zodiac murders from the late 60s to the mid 70s is one that is much different than any other already produced, most notably The Zodiac (2005) starring Justin Chambers. The direction of that film lacked intelligence and organization which are the areas that David Fincher's Zodiac excelled in.

    With a story like this, Fincher could have very well made a gore-fest that misused the actors and visuals to merely entertain instead of inform, but luckily for us, Fincher is too good of a director to stoop to that level. James Vanderbilt's amazing screenplay and David Fincher's genius vision work to make the legend of The Zodiac into a strong psychological thriller instead of a gory horror film. The suspense generated in most of these scenes might actually kill you... it's very climactic (especially in the scenes with Gyllenhaal near the end).

    Harris Savides' cinematography is absolutely brilliant and really adds to the overall suspense in most scenes. Within the first few frames I could tell that this cinematography would be something else. Savides worked on films like Birth and Elephant in the past, but has completed his work on the upcoming Ridley Scott crime-drama American Gangster which I am looking forward to seeing already just for Savides' work.

    The musical score was very suitable for the film, also. David Shire (who won an Oscar for his work on 1979's Norma Rae) composed the score for this film and I think that it fits perfectly with the film and highlights many of the thrilling scnenes. The production design was also very effective from the lighting all the way to Zodiac's car; everything worked perfectly.

    The cast was top-notch with strong performances from Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal. Downey Jr. was perfectly cast and Mark Ruffalo really impressed me for the first time since You Can Count on Me seven years ago.

    What really highlights this film is the terrific direction from David Fincher. He makes a film and it always comes out near perfect with very few flaws. From Se7en, The Game, Fight Club and Panic Room to this, he proves that he is an intrepid director that will not let us down.
    I'll say it once again, the best film so far this year. I highly recommend this.

    All I could think after seeing this was: this fucker is way too damn long! Nothing wrong with the cast or the acting, but I just kept thinking this movie could have been cut. The ending was not especially gratifying after spending 2 1/2 hours to get there, but I already knew the ...( read more)real-life story anyway. Not a waste of time at all, but not among Fincher's best.

    my bf recommend i watch this due to the fact i <3 films about crime and based on fact just made it that little bit more intriguing. So i went out to asda :) and bought myself a copy definitely worth £5 (unlike other things have wasted that kind of money on before ;) the story com...( read more)bined well together and was easy to keep up with and didn't make me feel dumb or bored half way through. it is a re watchable and recommendable movie all round :))xx

    An amazing film! Although I knew how it was going to end I felt I was right there with Jake Gyllenhaal's character in the race to find out who the Zodiac really is. I admire how this is one of the most horriffic stories of all-time and it really happened. It is real-life horror, ...( read more)a real life murder mystery, and it is portrayed superbly in this film.

    it was very good. teaches you to...not underestimate cartoonists. they can be real good detectives. HA. no really though, it was very smart. the ending wasn't great though, it would've been better if zodiac was actually caught.
