  Bernie the Gorilla: Hey, don't leave me in the van; I'm out of the zoo without my iZod.  "Don't talk to the animals... unless they talk to you first."  Zookeeper is a rather messy, cliche, predictable family comedy that uses a premise that all animals can talk and that they will even befriend a certain type of person. So, so far this sounds awful. That's how I figured I'd view the film. I thought I wouldn't like it, and I believed it would be horrible. Now while it isn't a good movie by any standards, I was completely surprised by it. Somehow all this stupidness ends up being a rather fun time, even with Adam Sandler's horrible voice for the monkey.  At the beginning of this movie we see a zookeeper propose to his girlfriend. It doesn't go well and then the story jumps several years ahead where we see that he's still a zookeeper even though the only reason his girlfriend wouldn't marry him was because he was a zookeeper. He loves his work though. When he runs into his girlfriend at a party for his brother who is getting married, he tries to win her back. A bunch of the zoo animals decide to try to help him out with his relationship problems and begin talking to him. In the end the story has the same sort of family theme that you don't need to change who you are to be happy. I sort of have an affection for these dumb comedies that Kevin James has been starring in. I didn't even hate Mall Cop. I've been a fan of James since I grew up watching his television show, The King of Queens. Ever since then, I always check out whatever he's in no matter how awful it looks. I was happy I checked out Mall Cop and now I'm happy I checked out Zookeeper. In the end, you sort of now what you're going to get from a movie like this. It isn't an amazing film by any standards, but there's something that is really likable about it all. I never thought I would say anything with talking animals would be likable, but this is just one of those times where a movie really surprises you.

  I wanted to hate this cliche-ridden pablum, meant entirely for families (meaning the six - seven year olds children in those families and, of course, by extension their long suffering and mostly forgotten parents) ... but I couldn't. James is ever James and the very recognizable celeb voice work carry this past offensive into the just right zone. Just right for six - seven year olds.

  "Zookeeper" is another film about talking animals that you will probably come to hate before you even watch it through, but I must say, that because my expectations were down so low for this film, I came out pleasantly surprised. Okay, the script is atrocious, the acting is wooden, the plot is juvenile, but the emotion is true, and the chemistry between a talking gorilla and a man has never felt so realistic. I am not trying to say that it is a good movie, but it is far from bad. It is a very poor film about a zookeeper who is trying to find his way. Sure, it's filled with slapstick, bad jokes, and poor acting, but in the end, the film follows all the basic elements in storytelling, and this film is great for kids to watch. I had a little fun with this mess of a movie, so I will not hate on it. It' s far too average for my personal taste though!

  "Zookeeper" is exactly what you would expect from a movie starring Kevin James where he talks to animals. It's ridiculous, sometimes funny, over the top, and overall decent entertainment. James as usual, is good. He just has a great likeable factor, where it's hard not to like the guy. He even made "Paul Blart" bearable. There really isn't anything that hasn't been done before here, as this is just like movies like "Dr. Doolittle." Where it differs is James, and the animal voices. Nick Nolte, Sylvester Stallone, Adam Sandler, Cher, Jim Brewer, among others are all great and very funny. BTW, any movie that features Joe Rogan and Bas Rutten(as a wolf with a love for pee), is worth a watch! Good family fun and good for a few laughs.

  Frank Coraci's <i>Zookeeper</i> is a family comedy movie as expected, but with very little in entertainment value.<p>The story is predictable from start to finish; however, while that is a letdown, what's more of a disappointment is the comedy. There is a lot of humor put into the script, but the laughs are far and few in between.</p><p>The animals end up as an integral piece of the plot, but they do get left behind during certain portions of the story, and the fact that they talk is questionable as to if it's necessary or not. Also, the voice work isn't the greatest. Just because recognizable names make up the cast, that doesn't do it justice. Sylvestor Stallone, Adam Sandler, Nick Nolte, and Maya Rudolph are all annoyances.</p><p>Kevin James delivers the quirky humor as needed, but the material throughout the script is bland. Rosario Dawson is a highlight, even though this film ends up as a waste for her. Ken Jeong has a completely worthless character.</p><p>In the end, <i>Zookeeper</i> is a boring 100 minute picture with very little to offer. Skip.</p>

  This movie was actually funnier than i thought it would be. There is no real story, cheap/childish gags, bad writing and acting. If, however, you have have nothing better to do and don't expect a masterpiece, this movie is worth a watch.

  A lamebrain comedy with a horrible, repulsive romance where we watch a sweet, hapless zookeeper (Kevin James) romance a shallow woman (Leslie Bibb) who dumped him years ago and wants him to change, despite the fact that he's great at his job, loves what he does, an the animals love the big lug as well, so much so that the animals all take turns giving the guy mating advice. That doesn't sound like a bad premise for a comedy, though James takes the admission that animals could always talk a little too in stride. Their advice typically amounts to stuff like "puff out your chest" and "pee on this tree." The potential of the premise is dashed when the comedy usually takes one of two routes: 1) James being clumsy, or, 2) James being fat. Rarely will The Zookeeper stray from these two troughs of canned laughs. There's a bizarre montage of product placement for T.G.I. Friday's where James takes a gorilla out to the restaurant. There's Rosario Dawson looking splendid as the Obvious Love Interest Who Will Not Materialize Until James Has to Chase Her Down to Stop Her From Leaving. And there are poop jokes. Oh, the poop jokes. At one point there was a studio bidding war over this screenplay, which has five names attached to the finished product. I can't imagine the end result was worth fighting over when it's so predictable, flat-footed, and unfunny. And why have animals singing over the end credits? Surely that little dash of CGI was an extra few million dollars that could have been spent wiser, like purchasing a different script. Nate's Grade: C-

  I really enjoyed this film, very cute. Good to see Kevin James play in a movie that is almost a full fledged family film, except for scenes where the animals lines are a little out of taste and the scene where Kevin is peeing on a tree, what is it with films these days? Is it that much of a turn on to someone to see a male peeing a very high number of movies since 1999 have to have this scene in there. Because of that only 3 1/2 stars. Still will be enjoyable to most. Been a while since I sat down an watched a everyday movie.

  So much of this lazy and generic comedy pissed me off. I simply have no time for it. The animals of Kevin James' Zoo are afraid he will leave his job in order to win the affections of an incredibly hot blond way out of his league. So they decide to dispense their own mating rituals for him to try. Boring predictable scenes follow as Kevin James makes a fool of himself. I know it's for kids, but which kid is really going to care about this fat middle-aged man getting a woman? I should have known it was going to be bad by the voice cast alone. If I was in charge of casting the voices for animals in a family movie the two people at the bottom of my list would be Nick Nolte and Sly Stallone.They are almost unintelligible. How about some people that don't sound like drunk retards? Next up we have the stupid story. These animals can talk, not only to James, but to anyone they like, and they've always been able to. So why haven't they talked out about poor living conditions? The extinction of their species? The abuse at the hands of Donnie Wahlberg? I guess James getting laid is more important. Oh wait, he wrote the script, now I see. Finally we have James' character. An absolutely idiotic spaz. It isn't the fact that he's stupid that annoys me, it's that his stupidity is inconsistent. He will gladly squat like a frog or piss on a tree in a crowded restaurant where people see him, but when the monkey suggests he throws poo he's all like "No way man". But everything in the film up to that point shows that he would do that. I guess even James has some humility. Overall this is a dream project for James, where he just gets by being fat, with no jokes, and is surrounded by beautiful women.

  Welcome to his jungle. Good movie! The movie main plot was not what I expected, I didn't expect a romantic comedy but it was good and I laugh a few times which were worth the while. Popcorn movie to watch with your family. Recommended for all ages. A group of zoo animals decide to break their code of silence in order to help their lovable zoo keeper find love without opting to leave his current job for something more illustrious.

  Zookeeper was the years worst film until I saw Spy Kids 4. In every sngle way I can think of this movie sucked. When Zookeeper Griffin Keyes (Kevin James) is dumped by his girlfriend on the beach, five years later he sees her again and he thinks she wants to start a new relationship, one problem, dating her would force him away from the zoo, and the talking zoo animals love having Griffin because he is kind and treats them as equals, so they reveal they can talk and they train him to be a ladies man, and in the meantime Griffin grows a strong friendship with Bernie the Gorilla. The plot is stupid on every level, why anyone would want to see a movie about Kevin James with talking animals is beyond me, and it even curses a little, why in gods name would a mother want to take her children to a family movie that swears, its ind of liuke the crappy Mr. Poppers Penguins. This film is also a horrible adaption of films like Night at the Museum and Dr. Dolittle, the writers in this movie might as well have been 5 year olds who made this during time out at pre school. Kevin James is a funny guy, why is he agreeing to crap like this all the time, his last decent film was Paul Blart, since then its been all crap, heck even before that he was doing a lot of dumb films, The King of Queens was hilarious, why can't he be funny like that. The voice artists weren't very bad, but if I had to hear any more of their crappy and cheesy jokes or Sylvester Stallone sound like Rocky Balboa as a lion, I was going to stand up and burn the movie screen, and to be honest I think everyone in the theatre would thank me. Zookeeper is a boring, badly plotted, horribly directed, badly acted, and terrible comedy movie and is a front runner for one of the worst films of 2011.

  I like Kevin James, I really liked 'The King of Queens' and I do think he can be really funny especially with his tubby in your face antics but he isn't having much luck in the movie world. This is basically 'Dr Doolittle' (the modern version) with very little other imagination used, its practically a copy! The animals talk and help James with his love and life issues and that's it, nothing more. We have seen the talking live action animal thing before and its a pretty lame idea frankly which looks poor too, but we have also seen the talking animated animal idea too many times so this film couldn't win in the originality stakes in any way. Its very soppy and really dumb, of course its a kids film but even kids may get bored with this, James is of course the main attraction for older viewers and he is quite amusing with his dialog and performance at times but much like 'Mall Cop' its nowhere near enough to save the film.

  If only the amiable Kevin James could make a movie that didn't call for him to be pummeled by objects and reduced to the staggeringly unfunny punchline of fat jokes. The talking-animals relationship advice is abysmal. The adorable Dawson is always a bridesmaid to shrill fiancees after this and 'Clerks II'. A raspy Adam Sandler as the monkey is moderately funny, but the other celebrities are thanklessly wasted on token anthropomorphic roles.
