Will Smith Thinks Teachers are Useless

Will Smith Thinks Teachers are Useless

Posted by jessicamontgomery 1122 days ago
Will Smith says he and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are homeschooling their children because he doesn't believe in teachers and feels the most valuable things he learned in life he didn't get from school. He tells Reader's Digest:

"The date of the Boston Tea Party does not matter. I know how to learn anything I want to learn. I absolutely know that I could learn how to fly the space shuttle because someone else knows how to fly it, and they put it in a book. Give me the book, and I do not need somebody to stand up in front of the class."

I agree with Mr. Smith. Who excatly is going to get a absolutly great job and become CEO of a company by knowing when a certin thing happened. I think that parents are the best teachers a child can ever have. People get ahead in this world by the installments a parent puts in their childs mind. My oldest son is home-schooled also and you could never meet a more polite well-mannered child. Schools now a days are having to many problems with bombing and drugs. There was a middle school near my hometown that put 2 13 year old boys in juvilnille PRISON fo sexual assult. And all they did was hold a girls hand!! The school systems in this country need to be overhauled.

And for those who posted below me about the Smiths having the money and resources to home school their kids. So do you its called a libary card, you can get one at your local libary for free. And they have alot of great books that can help children learn.

i some what agree with what Will Smith has to say but there are some things that happen in a school setting that would never happen at home. and yes what happened over 100's of years ago do matter they show us how much we have improved since then. how our country came to be and who made it this way. i believe a school setting is more appropriate but will and jada know what is best for their children but there is always room for improvement
i still adore will smith as an actor.

I have much respect for Will Smith and the choices they've made for thier children. However, there should never be a blanket statement made about all of anything. I'm sure Will and Jada have the money and resources to ensure that their hometeaching is more than just them. Do all parents have the same resources to teach Calculus or Advanced Placement courses? There are many social skills that are also taught in the school setting that can't be learned at home. It was their past and their education that made them who they are so it couldn't have been that bad could it.

    Blessed Love to all !!!
I agree with Will Smith, at shool they teach children only the white history and hardly any truth about our Black history. And to protect your children it is great if you can teach them at home. Specialy when they have a talent (skill) that way they can survive !!!
Big up to Will Smith and his beautifull wife !!!
They are one of the best actors on this earth!!!

I believe home school is becoming more popular to parents predominantly because of the way school has become. It is no longer a safe place. School has become overshadowed by violence from our children's peers, drugs, and perversion from some of the teachers that we trust to keep our children safe. We send our children to be educated, true, but at what cost. If I could afford to home school my children, I would do the same thing.

  • Although I like Will and I love his work, I'm not in total agreement with Will. Look, maybe home schooling is good for a few, it's not the answer. There are may things missing from the experience of going to school, like interacting with different children at age of the ages one goes through in school. Today, schools are however, making this technique more attractive. Many school now are trying to shove education down kids throats in order to compete with the rest of the world, because we have been surpassed in education standards. Removing interactive activities like sports and recess for various idiotic reasons is hurting more than helping. We won't know the outcome until these kids are adults, and by that time it would be too late, until cooler heads take over and fix the trend that is running rampant. This was not meant to be a sounding board for eduaction, but see how that guy and the movie can affect people?

  • I guess lots of it is true - The bit about whan Boston Tea Party was, I dont care! I mean its not like i'll be going back there is it. Maths is Ok, but History and Geography I dont need or want a teacher!!!

  • Will you do have a point about some of the teachers, they should care about all of the children but they don't, only about some of the students. I think homeschooling your children is better because the parent should be able to judge what their child is taught and not have to worry about equal treatment of our child and the attitude of children whom don't want to learn or that their parents just don't care about teaching them how to behave in school.

  • Hello, I think that Will is kind of right. But I'm Pakistani so I would have a completely different view than an American like Will. But you have to go to school to get studied with other children of your age. I mean, I go to a Private with the presidents' children so it's a bit different for me.

  • will raises some very good points i completely agree with him, i'm home-shooled and i dont meen any offence but i have friends in school and home educated and to be honest my home ed friends have matured a lot faster and also people who are taught at home are more likely to live a healthier life when there older and young, they have more time to get out and exercise also there more likely to learn to cook propperly i know theres home economics in schools but from what i have heard the teachers dont let the kids learn to do it them selves that much also statistics show that home educaters do in fact do better in life. i have a hell of a lot more reasons why home eds better belive me but then i realy would be going on

  • I dunno, his statement seems a little ignorant to me. I don't doubt that Will Smith is doing a fine job as a parent, and I don't disagree that the date of the boston tea party means little to most common folks, but to discount the value of school and teachers is just ignorant. what do you guys think?
