The lowbrow comedy spoof "Epic Movie" opened at No. 1 at the weekend box office in North America, while several newly minted Oscar nominees enjoyed solid sales, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday.

"Epic Movie," one of four new wide releases in the marketplace, earned about $19.2 million since opening Friday, exceeding industry expectations.

The film, which spoofs such movies as "The Da Vinci Code" and "Snakes on a Plane," was released by 20th Century Fox, a unit of News Corp. The studio said the youth-skewing comedy cost in the low-$20 million range to make.

    it wasnt that good..that acting was shit!! the only good thing was the white castle joke and the Jack Swallows bit..the willy wonka dude was soo creppy!!

    The only reason it made so much money was because people THOUGHT it was going to be funny, but were greatly disappionted. That's an hour and a half that I can't ever get back again...

    It was a really gay movie, there was a lot cussing and sexual stuff in it. There was like 4 funny parts.

    This was quite possibly the worst movie ever made. I am demanding my money back from the movie studio.

    This one is bad enough that if someone were to pay you 20 bucks to go see it I'd say turn it down.

  • I think this is one of the worst movies ive ever seen. Not only was it not funny, and poorly written but theres a seen where you can see one of the microphones hanging above an actor. and it doesnt look like it was done to be funny, so its just pathetic.
