Officials at a top US suicide prevention group are failing to see the funny side of billboard ads for a new comedy that show people killing themselves. Acclaimed indie movie Wristcutters: A Love Story follows a group of people who have taken their own lives, as they take a trip through purgatory.

The film, starring Patrick Fugit and Shannyn Sossamon, has won a handful of top indie film prizes in America, but the director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is not a fan of the film, or its marketing campaign.

    dear god, people need to lighten up. suicide is merely a FACTOR in this movive; a supporting role, if you will. it sets the stage for the entire movie, yes, but Earth does the same damn thing for other movies.

    this film in no way endorses suicide. It's a comedy and a love story, but it in no way insinuates suicide is a good idea in my opinion. Personally i think if anything it discourages you from wanting to commit suicide, i mean if life's so awful you want to end it, what worse after life could their be than life continuing on like normal, just without the good stuff (like family and smiles) suicide

    I just saw this film on the 18th of november and I LOVED IT. what that "expert" wrote didnt even cross my mind in fact if i was going to kill my self I'd prob not after vewing this film lol

    Yeah, what is a suicide expert, someone who is an expert on killing themselves?? I'm not gonna see this movie, at least I'm not exited about seeing it, the funny in people killing themselves, I see their piont.

    'Suicide Experts' - what a depressing job. Anyway, if it's an acclaimed Indie film, I daresay I'll try to watch it at sometime.
