Rachel Weisz has dropped out of "The Mummy 3," the latest installment of the blockbuster action franchise.

Brendan Fraser will return for the Universal Pictures project, which will be set in China and also feature action hero Jet Li. Rob Cohen ("The Fast and the Furious") will direct. The previous "Mummy" films, directed by Stephen Sommers, were released in 1999 and 2001.

    I think certain movies just dont need to have a sequel or a third film..It just wont b the same..And if there is a different director...A good example of a movie that didnt deserve a sequel was Bring it on 2 and 3.. even though i liked 3 it was just uncalled for ...

    They should just kill off her character in the beginning of that movie then because replacing the original characters always sucks. It won't be the same without Rachel playing that character!

    why, Why, WHY? Why won't Rachel come back? I love her so much but if she isn't in the movie, it won't be the same at all. With a different actress, everything's gonna look wrong.

    It would not be a Mummy movie without Rachel! I'm glad Brendan returns, but why did she drop out?? She's tied with Brendan for my fav character and totally kicks ass!

    Maybe a prequal, I mean The Mummy Returns was way to much. Maybe this takes place before O'Conner got married. Or just that Lizzy is dead...simple solution to the whole thing... then there will be no more fuzz about a mummy 4.
