Cameron Diaz Won Battle Over 'Shrek' Character

Cameron Diaz Won Battle Over 'Shrek' Character

Posted by jewelre 933 days ago
Cameron Diaz has won a round of the battle of the sexes when she convinced Shrek The Third producers to change Princess Fiona from an annoying nag to a supportive, independent companion.

Diaz, who stars in the third part of the animated film series with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, is ecstatic she was able to convince Hollywood bosses to change the script.

She says, "It was like, guys - just because she got married, it doesn't mean she has to become a nag. She has to understand that what he is going through is really difficult and he can't step up every single time. They got it and they were like, 'Yeah you're right.'"

good on her. this is a great example of someone that is passionate about their job. most of the rank and file actors would get dragged along by any script, but cameron diaz has stood up for her role in a film and probably improved on it with a refined script. for example, just imagine how much better the latter 2 movies from the matrix trilogy would of been if the cast refused the original script

I believe that if the actors are truly into their craft, there is no one who would know the characters better than they do. Sure, the writers create the characters, but the actors bring life to them (or some *cough* don't). I wouldn't say she's out of line, as long as the director is the type that encourages input from their associates.

Interesting. For most of us, when our boss tells us to do the job, we just do it. I guess Cameron isn't hurting for money....

I really don't see what the big deal is. The title character 'Shrek', is one of the most rude and bitter characters in animated history, yet people still come out to see him, right? If Fiona is annoying, so what? She would have to be to deal with that imbecile Shrek on a daily basis.

With that said, I can't wait to see the movie.

Wow, JimmyJTJ that has to be one of the most ignorant things I have heard today. How can you call her arrogant? She is defending her character. And I doubt she thinks she is Bush. I'm sure she is allot smarter than that. This is her life. This is what she does for a living. She has every right to do her work how she feels it should be done. Just like any one else at any other job. Your comments are just stupid and not very well thought out. Small children do look up to characters such as hers. I do have a daughter and when she was growing up she would grow attached to her characters on TV and I think it is a good thing what Diaz has done. So lighten up!

That's just gonna make the movie worse. She's an idiot. I'd rather have real characters than fake sympathetic nausea inducing ones.

  • I think it's great that Cameron stood up for her character.I don't think it makes her an arrogant actress. Most driectors and producers like that actors and actresses tell them about their views and opinions. It's great that she is making her character a feminist role model.Guys just hate that women don't live like they use to in the olden day.Where women did whatever the man said.HELLO it's a new century.Women have rights too. What she did wasn't petty either.Cameron ROCKS for sticking up for her role.Go Cameron!

  • First off, I'd like to mention that the princess fiona character person wouldnt have become a nag. She was already a nag. But anyway tho, cameron diaz has a right to try to convince the director ppls to change the character, because its her playing it. its not her being arrogant, it just means she cares about her character

  • It has nothing to do with arrogance and imposing her views ... She was simply right, little girls and little boys watch this film, its the makers responsibility to make it more acceptable than cliché. Good job Cameron.

  • What is wrong with a strong female role model, even if it is in a cartoon? I would guess that is a good thing rather then a bad thing. Or maybe we should make female characters who are passive, lets keep them in their place, right? I guess keeping stereotypes is important though, God forbid we make progress.

  • Sorry to say this, but all this amounts to is an arrogant actress imposing her views and opinions into a fictional cartoon character. Who does she think she is? George W. Bush? It doesn't mean a thing other than Cameron Diaz is REALLY petty and has so much free time on her hands that she deems it necessary to demand producers change a cartoon into a feminist role model. Urg!
