"Smokin' Aces" Prequel is a Go

SlashFilm reports that a prequel to "Smokin' Aces" is on its way. When the site spoke to director Joe Carnahan, he expressed interest in another movie. "I've had an idea to do a Tremor brothers prequel, do this, do that. You could explore these characters endlessly."

When the film hit theaters, it brought in a modest $53 million worldwide, but outperformed its expectations on DVD. Now, his prequel idea has received a greenlight.

"Universal wants to move ahead with a direct-to-video prequel of 'Smokin' and asked me if I wanted to Godfather the thing and make sure we did a really cool story," Caranhan reveals. "The DVD numbers 'Smokin' Aces' has done are astounding and they want to strike while the iron is hot. Whatever reluctance I have is alleviated by the fact that we can really do this balls out, hardcore prequel and not be constrained by ratings or any other puritanical MPAA bullsh*t. That I love."

    Was I the only one who liked 'Smoking Aces'?
    I was actually impressed with the range of actors in it, and it did carry my attention.
    Of course, I got into the film since most of the characters were introduced properly.

    I didn't get drunk to watch this (nor did I ever feel sick), so the early comments from the immature girl are a testament to her own naivety.

    If there is a prequel, and its released on DVD instead of film, it won't do too well.
    If the prequel were to center around Jeremy Piven, and the adventures he encounters as a Vegas showman, then perhaps the film would be interesting enough to watch.

    The fast-moving, comic book feel is a little thick in the 1st film. The prequel will likely be under-budget if Universal shoots the project and pushes it straight to DVD.

    Wait. I just re-read it's direct to dvd?

    Forget it. It will be as bad as Aces.

    I'v seen this film in Theathre, I knew from mthe beginning it was going to Rock, but I'm not sure if a sequel or prequel would be so Good. Even if IM sure it'd be Good.
